The Roof at The Durham
A year-round gathering spot with unbeatable panoramic downtown views, plus a seasonal food and drink menu. The mid-century modern rooftop overlooks downtown. Come for the sunset views but stay for craft cocktails, snacks made with local ingredients and unique community events. Reservations for tables are only accepted for parties of 10 or more. Otherwise, grab seats first-come, first-served or mingle on the open-air terrace. Nice weather is prime time for private events, so check The Durham’s social accounts for any closures. Otherwise, heaters and enclosures make it a year-round fave spot. You won’t find a dining patio from a higher vantage point than this one. As if all this wasn’t enough, you can also come here to enjoy live music from local acts year-round.

We really enjoyed the weekend brunch at the hotel. It was easy to make reservations and find parking near the hotel. The food was outstanding! I had the Farmer's Omelet and my friend had the Guac Toast. Everything was fresh and delicious and the portions were huge. Our server was also attentive and provided wonderful service to our table, in spite of a full restaurant. Will absolutely recommend and hope to come back soon! -
Lovely hotel. Very cozy lobby! Such a fun hip spot to hang out. I have to admit that the food is not as wonderful over the last few years. In years past it was really delicious, but it seems they put less emphasis now on their food. Still one of my favorite spots to hang out, but I come more for the atmosphere than for delicious food. -
Consistency. At least it was consistent. I always try and say something positive about a place. I had to think for some time on this one:
Parking - You have to park 2 blocks and the parking garage does not have a convenient elevator (if it had any).
The Belllman - Not very helpful, nor friendly.
The Front desk - Not at all friendly or inviting.
The room - I adjusted the thermostat to 72 and it finally got down to 74 (from 77 for most of the night) at 3 am.
The food - I couldn't tell you. It has 2 places to eat (ground floor and roof). The bellman did not even know they had a restaurant on the roof (and I had to ask him since nobody was at the front desk). I looked at both menus and to say it was limited is being generous.
So the moment you have been waiting for, the positive thing. The best thing I can say about the place is that it is near The Yonder and The Daily. Very good coffeeshop and bar. Skip the food (meh) and have a coffee and a beer.
Do yourself a favor and stay at the (very) nearby, 21C Hotel. MUCH friendlier, nicer and about the same price. -
I'm feeling fortunate that a flight delay led to an unplanned stay at The Durham. Loved the room details, especially the gorgeous bed quilts and ceramic cups! Breakfast in the beautiful lobby restaurant was perfect - the best I had in a week of travel in North Carolina! This place is a gem of a hotel. -
I had dinner and drinks on the Rooftop for the first time and it was a definite vibe! The food, service and drinks were top notch and combined with the million dollar views it just made my experience unforgettable. Thank you Durham Hotel!
