Bull City Beer Challenge Events
In addition to the 20 businesses and taprooms to visit, you can earn points toward your challenge total at these seven events! Attend an event and look for the A-frame sign to check-in on the Discover Durham app. Open the event objective within the challenge section of the app, then click scan code to scan the QR code. If the event takes place at a participating brewery or taproom, you can get double credit for checking in at the event and the business – just look for the second QR code!
Every day in the Bull City, there’s a wide variety of events happening to help you connect with our vibrant community.

How Does the Bull City Beer Challenge Work?
A few easy steps and we’ll have you basking in your hard-earned credit for trips to Durham’s breweries in no time:
- Download the Discover Durham app on iOS or Android.
- Open the app and click the “Bull City Beer Challenge 2026” icon. There, you’ll find a list and map of the participating businesses and events to start chipping away on with a brewery-hopping excursion. The app will help you map your journey so you can enjoy a few different spots within proximity of each other – responsibly!
- Once you arrive at a participating business or event, find challenge signage including a QR code near the check-out or on tables. You can either use your camera app to scan the core or open the business listing within the Bull City Beer Challenge 2026 challenge and click “scan QR code” to check in.
- If you’re not able to scan the QR code, you can instead type a passcode listed on the same sticker as the QR code into the Discover Durham app. These codes are not case-sensitive and are unique to each of the 21 stops and seven events.
- The check-in radius is limited to 300 meters from each business address, so make sure you scan the QR code or enter the passcode while you’re still inside! You won’t be able to check in remotely.
- You should receive confirmation of your check-in instantly.
- You must wait at least 5 minutes between each check-in.
- Repeat this process until you’ve completed at least 12 of the objectives.

How Do I Claim The Bull City Beer Challenge Prize?
