Overview
Does it get any better than a heaping handspun milkshake made with homemade ice cream? Well, at Milkshake Factory, it does. The store, located in the American Tobacco Campus, also sells gourmet chocolates made with sustainably sourced cocoa, dairy-free shakes and sundaes. Some varieties are available for a limited time, like their peanut butter and jelly shake, so watch for seasonal additions, but the signatures and classics are here to stay. Treat yourself to this new dessert destination the next time you’re downtown.

Second time eating here and it was once again delicious! I would say the only downside of this place is it’s a little pricey, but honestly I think it’s worth it! The quality is really good! -
Milkshakes are on par with the menu. The one I received looked just like the photo on the menu. I got the caramel toffee cappuccino milkshake. It was delicious. Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the shake but took a couple of inside the store. -
This was my very first visit to this location, and it was truly one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I have ever had. From the moment I walked in, not a single employee acknowledged me. There was no greeting, no smile, and not even eye contact. I stood there feeling completely invisible while the employees gathered together laughing, joking, and openly making fun of customers in the store.
The atmosphere was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. Instead of creating a welcoming environment, the employees seemed more interested in entertaining themselves at the expense of others. It was embarrassing to witness and disheartening to experience as a paying customer.
The three employees on duty were not only rude but displayed a level of disregard that reflects terribly on the company as a whole. Their behavior gives the impression that management allows or ignores this type of conduct. It is honestly shocking that individuals with such poor attitudes are the face of this brand.
I left feeling insulted, unwelcome, and disappointed. This experience alone would make me think twice before ever returning or recommending this place to anyone. If the company values its customers and reputation, serious changes need to be made in how their staff is trained to treat people. -
I originally thought this place would be similar to The Yard Milkshake in ATL, but it has its own vibe. I ordered the cookies and cream milkshake, it was very sweet, a little too much for me to finish, but it was fun to try! Bae liked his chocolate sundae -
My first time visiting was on Thursday, but it definitely won’t be my last!! The Milkshake Factory - Durham is an inviting and well-kept shake shop with a wonderful menu of shakes, sundaes, and homemade chocolates. We were greeted by friendly and smiling faces of the “shake-masters” as I will call them. Kendall was an incredibly nice and engaging shake-master that was fun to talk with and he helped me decide on which shake to try. He even clued me in on the dairy-free options and I will say my dairy-free milkshake was a 10 out of 10! You are also able to sample their in store, freshly crafted chocolates and they were delicious as well.
It was very cool to celebrate a couple of family members’ birthdays over delicious milkshakes! Everyone (about 12 of us) greatly enjoyed their shakes and sundaes with declarations to come back again. The shop’s location is directly across from the American Tobacco Campus (on Blackwell St.) and is nestled between the Durham Bulls stadium and the DPAC area. Good seating options indoors or outdoors. I highly recommend that you put the Milkshake Factory - Durham on your “must do” list and become a new fan like me! A+ 👏🏾👏🏾
