PLEASE take your donations to another nearby thrift store. This is a nonprofit ministry run organization (tax-deductible as permitted by law) however their prices are anything but charitable or kind. This thrift store has always been known for its prices being high from furniture to plates. But most recently their new focus is on extortionately pricing the books and clothes. As you will see below it’s not just the Book of the Month books, semi-recent releases (10-20 years), or any hardcover book they think is remotely popular. It’s also the contemporary paperbacks that they price just five dollars less than buying brand new retail. Even B&N who do BOGO deals on popular books and second-hand bookstores, have fairer pricing. I never thought that I’d see a Nicholas Sparks (one of the most commonly found authors at thrift stores next to James Patterson) hardback priced for $15 secondhand. I didn't know “rare” was the new synonym for overpriced. At least before these outrageously priced books were at the front but they have since been mixed with the more reasonably priced books. Even taking into account inflation, rent, paying their workers, and putting money aside for generous causes, other thrift stores nearby have stayed open despite not following the example of Durham Rescue Thrift Store’s shady price gouging. Even by signing up for their loyalty program or getting them 50% off you are STILL overpaying. Don’t become a victim or let your donations be used for highway robbery in the name of “charity”. The nice workers only follow orders. It is nobody but upper management who is responsible.

I used to really love this location…but the prices are astronomical now. I don’t even bother going in there anymore. I’ve already wasted enough time picking up multiple things I would definitely buy but when I look at the price and compare it online…Same price brand new. Don’t even bother with the furniture. SO expensive. They’re acting like a department store with their prices. The things they get are FREE. It’s a thrift store & the people who actually need it can’t afford it. I no longer recommend this location to my friends. You’re better off going to the goodwill on Garrett road. At least their prices are mostly reasonable. Also, expect to hear the same songs over and over and over again. Surprised the people working there haven’t gone insane by now

It’s a great place to buy thrifted items. They have all kinds of stuff from clothes, furniture , electronics, decoration and many more. Most importantly the employees are really nice and very helpful especially the manager, he’s very kind. I highly recommend people to check this place out. I came here just to shop for a few clothes, ended up buying so much stuff 😆

For furniture, just spend like $50 extra and buy it new if you are willing to spend that much. Otherwise go to Trosa for real thrift store prices.
It's super expensive here.

Clothes and some housewares are thrift store prices, that's good.

The Durham Rescue mission is a great thrift store for home decor and furniture. (I have not shopped for any clothing , jewelry or electronics there).
Their prices are quite good on most items.
The staff is very courteous, always helpful and friendly.
They know their regular customers, often by name and even preferences (I like vintage items), and they carefully wrap breakable items.
They always let me know about special discount days (seniors receive 20% off on Tuesdays), or special sales (early bird and night owl discounts). I like the (free) loyalty program.
They have recently repaved the parking lot and entrance area, which makes it safer to park and enter the store.
The manager (Mr Delgado) is very approachable and friendly, willing to price unpriced items, (or discuss potentially mispriced items) when he is available.
I recommend checking out the Rescue Mission for home decor and furniture before shopping at the ‘big box’ stores.
