Cloche Coffee arrived in the Ninth Street District across from Duke East Campus in 2019. The beautiful, plant-filled interior is the perfect place to work, catch up with friends or recharge. On a fair weather day, enjoy your favorite caffeinated beverage on their spacious patio. The shop serves organic, ethically sourced, fair-trade coffee from Larry’s Coffee and locally-made pastries.

Such a warm and cozy vibe filled with plants. If you like plants and coffee you have found your place. It’s also VERY dog friendly. Usually I sit outside when I bring dog as a common courtesy for others. Since it was cold outside they allowed me to keep dog inside with me. She got lots of pets and pup cup.

Yum... Had a perfect vegan mocha here and a delicious vegan cookie. The mocha sauce tasted more on the dark chocolate end, maybe homemade; it complimented the latte perfectly; just sweet enough. And the local espresso blend was rich and flavorful. The barista also frothed the oatmilk perfectly, with rich foam and a heart (see picture). I am always on the hunt for good mochas; so many disappoint, but this one made me happy to the last sip. They must be using a good Oatmilk too, it was not watery or sugary.
The atmosphere was authentic and spot on. The smells, the plants, the seating areas, the students with their laptops open. I wish this coffee shop was closer, I would be there often.
There was not a lot of seating available; students snuggly ensconced in every nook and cranny. The location is right across from the Duke Campus so I'm not surprised. I think I would like to arrive early one day and plant myself midst the smells and light chatter to read a book.
The prices were decent, especially for the quality. The service was excellent as well. The young woman who helped me was very gracious about looking to see if their mocha sauce had dairy (it does not).
The baked goods looked delicious too; I'm sure they came from a local bakery. There was a cinnamon roll that wound around into a perfect bun which looked like something I would bake. I had a vegan cinnamon apple giant cookie, which had a great texture and moist "cinnamon appleness" inside.
The store is on a busy street, but I did find parking. I passed the store twice until I found it; the signage is not good, but be persistent, it is worth it.
There was a fairly large outdoor seating area as well.
Highly recommended if you are in Durham. I'll be be back!! -
My go-to spot when I'm in this part of town! The coffee is great! The vibes are immaculate! Kind of small, but there's plenty of space to work from home, or meet with a friend, or have a business meeting! I like it a lot!!

Loved this coffee shop! We had cappuccino and croissants and the interiors were beautiful and cozy. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating with lots of shade, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your coffee. Definitely coming back!

My husband and I stopped by Cloche Coffee after a quick run when we spotted it. What a great find!
The chocolate banana bread was absolutely amazing, and our barista, Chrissy, was so friendly and incredible. My husband ordered a chai latte, but I ended up drinking most of it because it was that good! 😂 We even ordered another one to take home for our son because we knew he’d love it too.
I also loved the décor—it has so much greenery, which makes the space feel cozy, fresh, and relaxing. It’s the perfect spot to sit, enjoy a coffee, and unwind.
Everything was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was so welcoming. Highly recommend checking this place out—we’ll definitely be back!
