The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is a top international festival for feature-length and short nonfiction films. The four-day festival offers indoor and outdoor screenings of nearly 50 films, plus panel discussions, parties and social activities from morning until night. Within just a few city blocks, the festival draws thousands of film professionals and fans to take in screenings, take part in conversations, make connections and build community. Full Frame is a program of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and, though it has earned the nickname "the filmmaker's festival," it's a fun and approachable festival for anyone with an interest in documentary film.

Full Frame Film Festival 2026 Lineup

Full Frame has officially announced the 2026 lineup, and it is stacked with 49 films from 30 countries. Of the 49, 19 features and 15 short films will compete for the nine juried awards. The 15 remaining films will screen outside of the competition in the Invited Program, which you will find on the lineup page. Below, we've included a few of the highlights for the 28th annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.

  • The Oldest Person in the World — Opening the festival, this film, directed by Sam Green, follows the stories of the world's oldest people over the span of a decade.
  • American Doctor Directed by Poh Si Teng, this film follows three American doctors—Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian—as they find themselves caught in a political struggle whilst trying to save lives in Gaza.
  • A Fox Under a Pink Moon — Directed by Mehrdad Oskouei and Soraya Akhlaghi, this film follows Soraya herself, a 16-year0-old Iranian artist on her 5 year journey to make her way to Europe. Captured entirely on a phone camera, Soraya shares her fears and worries as she makes her way to her destination.
  • Soul Patrol — See a hidden chapter of American military history step into the light as director J.M. Harper reunites the Vietnam War’s first Black special operations team to hear them tell their story.

Where to Stay for Full Frame

The Carolina Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Durham, a walkable district with plenty of new things to see and do. There are five hotels within walking distance of the Carolina Theatre. In 2025, Full Frame falls on the same weekend as the Dreamville music festival in Raleigh, which could impact room availability.
