The staff was extremely excited about the new management. I spoke with Nick the new director and he has some really great goals and extreme changes in store for the property. The hotel has such wonderful potential. The staff are super hospitable and eager to help. The price was a little high for the overall experience but hopefully they will get there.
Angel at the front desk went above and beyond to make everything right for us.
The staff is absolutely wonderful but the hotel and property needs quite a bit of work to be considered for $300 a night on a Thursday.

I've stayed at 21C Durham a couple of times, and it is nice. The rooms are a little austere. But that also makes them immaculate.
Highlights:
- Beds are comfortable, with high-quality linens.
- The toiletries are Malin & Goetz, which are fabulous.
- Service is always friendly. The doormen are an incredible asset to the staff.
- The Counting House, on location restaurant offers high quality creative options.
- The best part is the Museum. Every show I've seen there has been excellent.
- Be sure to visit the vault in the basement.

Great location with plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. The art galleries available around the hotel was always interesting to look at and was worth seeing. Would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Durham.

This hotel is a gem. It's not even hiding. Whoever had the idea of transforming extra capacity into art spaces is a genius. The idea is powerful enough to transform the industry. However, the business model might need to get tweaked. It's hard to generate sufficient revenue I imagine to make return on some serious art investment. Still, extremely impressive. 10,000 stars out of 5.

A free museum with a quirky collection, including pink penguins you can move around wherever you like. There's also a cool old bank vault in the basement. They let us bring in our ice cream, which was nice. Definitely a cool, hidden gem in downtown Durham!

Stylish boutique hotel-museum hybrid, featuring modern art throughout the space. Clean, unique and perfectly located in the heart of downtown Durham. All of the pink penguins make for a quirky and cute touch.

This hotel is different. The first two floors are a museum. The room I stayed in had a dark decor but it was clean. The location was great, close to our office at American Underground.

I can only speak to the quality of the museum, I have never spent the night at the hotel. The museum however is just wonderful. There's all kinds of Art and it's all very very interesting. The old bank vault in the cellar is open for you to explore. Don't miss out on the gallery on the second floor. The place is very handicapped friendly. There are elevators as well as stairs. The bathrooms are kind of exciting as they are of the opaque glass variety.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel last weekend. Despite 3 weddings in the hotel, the staff, to a one, was always friendly, smiling, and accommodating. Requests were all handled smoothly -- with hand-offs happening seamlessly, when required. I rarely experience that in the US and never in the last several years. The building was great too. The room furnishings, public spaces/museum exhibits, bar were a refreshing change from the usual cookie-cutter chains. Well done!

I love the location of 21c. You can walk to so many great restaurants. There is very little parking around the hotel, so you will need to valet. I love the architecture and size of the rooms. The staff is great. My only issue with the hotel is that the hallways are terrazzo tiles. The floor is quite noisy at night. You can hear people in heels walking down the halls. You can also hear loud conversations in the hallway. Unfortunately, we had some loud conversations in our hallway at 4am. Next time I'll ask for a room closer to the elevator, less chance for long hallway conversations. Otherwise, we love this hotel. It snowed while we were there and it was lovely.

I booked this trip on the Delta app & arrived to learn the hotel was full & had no record of our reservation. I had a copy of the confirmation. My sister & I were placed in a small room (one bed) but moved the next day to a lovely room with a view. The 4 night stay was wonderful; great valet service (kudos to Stan), drag show provided an experience with lots of laughter, & the food is excellent.

A funky and cool hotel. Staff was very nice. Room was fine. Son why three stars? The hotel is next door to the Unscripted Hotel and they have a rooftop DJ that blast music from 5:30 to 11pm. So the hotel is fine but if you want to work or relax in your room in the evening then forget it.

Had a wonderful stay - just one night with my bestie - we had a blast drinking wine and exploring the hotel and its artwork into the wee hours of the morning. There is tons to see! Would certainly stay again. Room had a nice view of the city lights and was clean and modern. Loved the bathroom with the glass walk-in shower and purple lighting. Staff were helpful and friendly!
Bar stays open til 2am- suana and steam room were very nice. Many "Easter eggs" to find, especially around the vault area. Also, this place has the COOLEST bathrooms that the glass fogs to white upon locking!! Just thought that was very neat. See photos.
Check the website for a fun scavenger hunt list for extra fun!

I was staying in town for business and was referred to the hotel. The room was much larger than I expected given some of the other reviews, with all the amenities I could want - coffee maker, iron/ironing board, room safe, bathrobes, and extra blankets. I loved that the "desk" was actually a table and comfy love seat - much more comfortable and relaxing with my morning coffee than a desk facing the wall. The bathroom was good for an older building - large rain shower and the toiletries were fantastic. The location can't be beat - walking distance to everything downtown. My critiques are minor - the towels felt cheap (thin, scratchy) compared to the rest of the room. And the hallways were very loud given they are tiled and not carpeted - not a problem once I turned on my white noise app.
The staff were amazing. I arrived in the early afternoon and my room was not quite ready - the front desk staff gave me access to the business center so I could work while I waited. A small but appreciated gesture! Every person I saw in the hotel (housekeeping, front desk staff, managers, valet service) was welcoming and made me feel like I was at a home away from home.
I will definitely stay here the next time I am in Durham and will be telling everyone the same!

I stayed in the 21 C Suite which is the entire 15th floor of the hotel (formerly a bank) and it was a lot of fun! The suite has 1.5 bathrooms. Spacious bedroom. Wet bar area with mini bar. Huge living/dining areas with a full sectional. And the best part is the huge outside terrace/balcony with the stone soaking tub on it overlooking downtown Durham. Amazing.

Irene is absolutely amazing and knowledgeable of not only the art but of the history of the Hotel in general. Speaking with her was a breath of fresh air and the light that shines within this young lady is different from the light we see in the world today. I just want to thank 21c for having this beautiful soul on their team. I will be retuning and advise you all to do the same! Ask for Irene. She’s on the night shift!!!
