Farm to Table

Get your hands dirty, meet the farmers and connect to Durham’s roots, just minutes from downtown.

There's something healing about rolling up your sleeves, connecting with the land and understanding where your food comes from. Durham's farms invite you into that experience – not as observers, but as participants. Pick strawberries and blueberries straight from the vine in summer. Join seasonal farm dinners where you'll eat what was grown steps from your table. Visit with goats (and maybe do yoga with them). Tour working farms where farmers will tell you their stories and share their pride in what they grow.

Durham sits in one of the richest agricultural regions in the country, and remarkably, these farms are just minutes from our urban center – the same place where James Beard-nominated and MICHELIN recommended restaurants and craft breweries have made Durham famous. Our farmers aren't just suppliers, they're the backbone of our celebrated food scene. It's this connection, farmer to chef and soil to plate, that makes our dining worth traveling for.

Find experiences that get you closer to the source: pick-your-own fields, farm tours followed by five-course dinners, goat yoga sessions and working farms eager to share their stories. Trade downtown for a few hours, reconnect with nature and leave with a deeper appreciation for the work behind every meal.

Durham's farms and farmers are a quintessential piece to the beautiful puzzle that makes up the Bull City. Downtown might hold much of the city's more recognizable attractions, but many of its restaurants and communal spaces and events would lack their unique personalities without the contributions from our local growers.

Spend a Saturday morning at one of Durham's excellent farmer's markets, perusing the stalls for locally grown produce, mushrooms, dairy, meat and more. Sample the flavors of Durham back at your home kitchen or reserve a table at one of Durham's award winning restaurants. Even Durham's beverage scene overflows with locally sourced ingredients, from the breweries to distilleries.

The best part about all of it? You can see all of these things grow for yourself. Some farms even allow you to show up and pick your own fruits and vegetables straight from the field. Schedule a farm tour, show up for Goat Yoga, or reserve a spot at a true farm-to-table dinner, right on the grounds. There are endless ways to experience and appreciate Durham's farms, so take your pick.
