Ninth Street Bakery
Phone: (919) 688-5606
This beloved staple has been serving those beautiful bread and pastry smells since 1981! Located in the Five Points intersection, it's easily identified by the mural of wheat against a blue sky located above the bakery's patio space. The bakery is a go-to lunch spot and a popular vendor at the Durham Farmers' Market each Saturday.

Really enjoyed my vegetable stew and home made bread at Ninth Street Bakery! They have a large selection of loaves and baked goods to bring home too. The staff members were kind and open in order to help me to find what I wanted. They have a great outdoor patio space where you can enjoy some fresh air while you eat your food!
I brought home the French Sourdough Loaf, the Stollen and Orange Almond Biscotti, and so far have been really enjoying all of them! -
I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich. It was excellent. Perfect balance of meat peppers, cheese and siracha mayo. The roll it was in was also excellent. I wish this place was closer to my house. The side of coleslaw was refreshing and I was happy to find that they didn't add a bunch of sugar. I will be back! -
Full service bakery that just happens to make great sandwiches! I had the chicken curry salad on sourdough which had the right amount of curry flavor with just a little kick. Cole slaw that came with it was good, and the pickle spear had a nice crunch. I'll definitely return to try their other sandwiches, and maybe one of their soups as well! -
FIVE-STARS! We love the high quality of Ninth Street Bakery products, especially the 7-Grain loaf, muffins, and more... Although we have visited their bakery and store in downtown Durham, most of the time we will pick up their products at the South Durham Farmers Market and Whole Foods in Raleigh. -
Fantastic counter service and a damn good, and generously sized, potion for $12. The double chocolate chip cookie was as big as my sandwich and quite possibly my favorite part of the meal. The cheese and veggie sandwich was great, I'll try the hummus and veggie next!
