We had a great visit. Front desk staff was very kind when checking us in, our room felt spotless, the ease of getting to the DPAC was a perk & we had a great experience with the bar & food. Lucinda at the bar is a master at her craft. Each drink was prepared with care & consideration & you can see her pride in what she does. The gentleman that served us from the restaurant was also extremely kind & an obviously hard worker. So impressed during our stay! -
Jenai (Front Desk Agent) was the most nice, professional, and welcoming hotel staff member throughout my stay. Her lovely attitude, friendly personality, and peaceful presence was nice to experience. Additionally, Christa and Eunice (Front Desk Agents) were always very nice and supportive during my stay.
Drew (Breakfast Cook) is very hardworking, easy to communicate with, and an all around great person that I enjoyed conversing with every morning during my breakfast visit.
I loved my room, the view, and only wished there was more closet hanging space. I will indeed return here for a future stay in Durham (Bull City), as the location was very convenient (even got an opportunity to see Hell's Kitchen at the beautiful DPAC, which was less than a two minute walk from the hotel) to many of downtown Durham's gems. -
I recently stayed at the Aloft Durham and had a mixed experience overall. The rooms were clean, the lobby was well maintained, and the location is hard to beat—especially if you’re in town for a show at the Durham Performing Arts Center, as the hotel is conveniently attached to it.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay, which I appreciated.
My biggest complaint was the air conditioning system. Whenever it was running, the room had a strong urine-like odor. It honestly reminded me of a housing project stairwell or an elementary school restroom. The HVAC system seems overdue for a deep cleaning or maintenance, and it definitely affected the overall comfort of the room.
Unfortunately, the issues didn’t stop there. At approximately 6:30 a.m., a fire alarm evacuated the entire building. Guests were forced outside for roughly an hour, which wasn’t ideal when you’re traveling and trying to get some much-needed rest. On top of that, the constant train horns and railroad noise made it nearly impossible to sleep in.
While the hotel has a lot going for it—cleanliness, a great location, and friendly staff—the sleep experience was disappointing. Between the HVAC odor, early-morning evacuation, and nonstop train noise, I don’t feel I got the rest I needed.
Overall, I’d give Aloft Durham a 3.5 out of 5 stars. I’ll probably look at other options in the area for my next visit. ⭐⭐⭐½ -
Seemingly decent hotel but unfortunately when I walked into the lobby this evening it smelled as though someone had used the restroom in the middle of the floor. The lobby bathrooms are just past front desk as you enter lobby.
The smell reached my floor. Floor 6. Seemed to linger for many hours into the night. My entire work party was also arriving at the same time experiencing the same stench. The rooms are fine. Oddly arranged space but a room is a room. I was given ONE bath towel.
Overall, I’d prefer to not revisit this location. Extremely mediocre -
Very nice Marriot property in the heart of Durham. Rooms are a bit on the small size but modern and well appointed. If you are going to see the Durham Bulls play, there is no better place to stay.
