The Can Opener
Phone: (919) 973-0011
Right next to Durham’s iconic “can opener” bridge, this new group and family-friendly destination is super fun—with plenty of covered patio space and picnic tables, outdoor games, an indoor beer and coffee bar, and of course, the food. Vendors offer an awesome variety from Gussy’s Greek Street Food, Chick-N-Que, Bulkogi, Queen Eggxpress Breakfast and a double-decker ice cream bus carrying Andia’s Ice Cream.

Love the rooftop seating. Has great views of the surrounding area. I took off one star for service because the food truck workers seem to be hiding from view in the trucks, so it’s hard to look inside and confirm a worker is actually present in the truck. That’s something I’d want to do before using the kiosk to pay for my order. -
We came on a Tuesday and it just happened to be open mic comedy it was 10/10. We laughed the whole time! They drinks are great and the food trucks are good. The bartenders are nice and it feels like being around friends! 10/10 recommend. -
Great atmosphere, seating, and space, including TVs for sports. Parking easy around the area free street too. Lot of people also relaxing and doing work or school work. The chicken BBQ place ran out of the chicken and waffle kabob by 2:30 pm on Sunday when we got there which is weird. There are 5 food trucks, but we didn't get anything. Instead we grabbed a good cortado in the cafe bar. -
The Can Opener is now one of my favorite places in Durham. I really enjoyed how laid back this food truck park is and the fact that it features an indoor bar and coffee shop. I spent time enjoying the weather, the adorable dogs on the patio while sipping delicious cocktails and feasting on eats. Gussy’s Greek food truck was our first stop for a falafel pita sandwich and Greek fries. Customer service was excellent and our food was so fresh and tasty. We spent time with the Baristas/ Bartenders Cameron & Kailey. I really enjoyed my time spent inside and the music being played. My cocktails were excellent. The coffee shop/ bar is beautifully designed ! Beautiful dining furniture. The bathroom was one of the nicest I’ve been in. Smelled heavenly! The owners here, are doing an incredible job managing the place. I am looking forward to returning with dog for brunch. There is plenty of side street and lot parking in the area. Cameron and Kailey treated us like family and I'm planning my next visit. -
5 stars feels disrespectful, but it’s the highest they’ll let me go so here we are. The Can Opener somehow manages to be a food truck park, bar, and coffee spot without causing an identity crisis, and honestly? It works.
The vibes are immaculate, like if your coolest friend curated an entire outdoor hangout. Great food options, drinks on point, and enough space to actually relax. You can get a latte, a beer, a margarita and a quesadilla all in one place without anyone judging you. That’s freedom.
Now… Cameron. I don’t know what they’re paying him, but it’s not enough. Man’s out here running the vibe like it’s a full-time DJ residency. Every song was hitting like he hacked my Spotify account and built the perfect playlist. I caught myself nodding along like I suddenly understood music on a deeper level.
Great drinks, great food, elite atmosphere, but Cameron’s music taste alone deserves its own 5-star review. If he ever drops a playlist, I’m following it like it’s a spiritual journey.
Will absolutely be back. Mostly for Cameron.
