With a name derived from their signature dessert, dou hua (Chinese homemade silken tofu pudding), Bean Flower is an adorable new Asian-owned dessert and drink café near Durham’s South Square. The shop specializes in authentic scratch-made dessert jellies/puddings and classic floral, fruit, and milk-based teas, along with limeade and fizzes made with locally sourced product as much as possible. Whether it’s to find flavors that remind customers of home, or something entirely new people want to try, Bean Flower is worth visiting.

I visited with my mom and we had a fantastic experience! After receiving our drinks, I accidentally knocked mine over while trying to take a photo. The staff was incredibly kind…without hesitation, they cleaned up the mess and even remade my drink without me asking. I was so impressed!
I had discovered this place on social media and had it saved for a long time, so I was really excited to finally try it—and it did not disappoint. We all *loved* our drinks. My mom especially enjoyed her dou hua so much that she asked me to bring her more the next time I visit. I had the jasmine milk tea with house-made soy milk, and it was absolutely delicious.
HIGHLY recommend Bean Flower for its amazing refreshments and outstanding customer service!!

Bean Flower feels like home, and that’s all because of CC and her wonderful staff. Every inch of this place is purposeful and made with love. It’s the most chill and beautifully decorated environment and you’ll never see a menu like this anywhere else. Above all, CC values her customers and her community. She’s always so incredibly kind and personable and talks to customers like they’re old friends. Bean flower is always doing very important community outreach and benefitting the community so I am always happy to support Bean Flower. It also helps that every drink I’ve tried is amazing. If you’re not sure what to get, just ask! The staff always has so many recommendations. 10/10 would come here every single day if I could!

My wife and I visited today and absolutely loved it. It was our first experience at a tea shop and we were amazed at all the combinations of the drinks available.
We ended of with two delicious tea drinks. We learned a lot today about the various teas and wish we had one closer to our Michigan home.

I got the douhua and Vietnamese coffee and they were both DELICIOUS! The space is beautiful and they sell funny, cute, and beautiful art by local Asian artists. If you’re looking for a place that has delicious deserts that can be tough to find and a space that feels queer friendly and fun, this is your spot! Also, the owner was incredibly kind and told me that many of the menu options are inspired by their own childhood favorites from their mom and aunties, it’s always nice to find businesses that are keeping nostalgic recipes alive 💕

Asian American owned!
The drinks are pricey but well worth. You can taste the intentionality, local ingredients, and careful prep they put in each drink. They also have super lovely events like Mahjong nights, flower arranging events, and other artsy craft nights. North Carolina needed a shop that truly spotlights Asian American businesses and independent creatives like the bean flower does!! They also sell cute prints, stickers, and merch from other artists.

I came here as it was sponsored on The Instagram page for Durham and I genuinely enjoyed my visit. The people behind the bar were incredibly welcoming and we had great conversation. I ordered the vietnamese coffee and it was really good! I also enjoy that I can change the sugar/sweetness levels of the drinks. I can't wait to come back and try their Sago!

The cutest and most wonderful Asian dessert cafe! I stop by multiple times when I'm back in town visiting. So many things to try and fall in love with from the almond pudding or the Dou Hua to the matcha limeade and Vietnamese coffee, you will not be disappointed! You can absolutely taste, see, and feel all the love and locally sourced ingredients put into the shop and it's food and drinks. HIGHLY recommend checking this place out and trying something new and don't forget to check out their awesome merch!

Love going to the bean flower for fantastic drinks and the vibes! The staff are super nice and always have good recommendations. I’ve gotten the seasonal hot malted chocolate every week since it was dropped and I can’t get enough! Also love the mango Hibiscus fizz and the chai on the permanent menu!

Stopped by and grabbed a matcha milk tea before an event. Great taste and cool set up (check out the plaque for the mural). I think it’d be a great place to chat with friends or do light work/study

This was my first visit, but it won’t be my last!
I got an Assam Milk tea with the fresh soy milk and it was incredible. I chose boba and lychee stars for my toppings and it was delicious. I can’t wait to come back and try other combinations of toppings and teas!
It was so good I drank it too fast to snap a picture. What a hidden gem!

Enjoyed everything, even on a crazy grand opening! We shared several new dishes like hot and cold douhua and drinks like the Lychee Ginger fizz, along with some old favorites like bubble tea, all of which were great. Come try out this new cafe and enjoy some wonderful treats.

Incredibly kind, helpful, and inclusive staff. Menu is reasonably priced and delicious. The lobby had fantastic decor with beautiful artwork. I got the Limeade + condensed milk with Lychee star bobas and the coffee jelly dessert which are both fantastic and refreshing. 100/10 reccomend, way better than MilkLab.

The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful! Super chill, relaxing.
Ordered the Chai, and Vietnamese Che, as well as the dou Hua! All so delicious! The Chai is nice and spicy and not overly sweet, the dou hua is super Silken and the tofu is made in house! (forgot to take pictures of dou hua before eating!)
