M Sushi
Phone: (919) 908-9266
In 2023, M Sushi was North Carolina's only spot in OpenTable's Top 100 Restaurants in America list. Minimalist decor, matte stone-gray walls and dim lights are meant to keep your mind Zen-clear, syncing with your palate. The basement sushi bar is located down a cobblestone pathway across from The Durham Hotel. With diners at the bar, Chef Lee and his sous chefs expertly glide their knives against glimmering fish, making for the Triangle area's first sushi restaurant dedicated solely to high-quality, seasonal seafood received fresh daily from Japan, Korea and the US. The menu is small and purposeful and the quality of the dishes is a direct result of the chef's dedication to fresh ingredients and honoring traditional Japanese cuisine.

M sushi is very good. I had the Grand Omakase and the seared scallop, the black cod and the Wagyu beef were excellent. I really enjoyed the mackerel nigiri as well.atmosphere is a bit loud with many people ordering a “choose your own adventure” Sushi/ Maki dinner which makes for a very busy atmosphere. I’ll definitely come back. Oh, and the Matcha Basque Cheesecake is delicious. -
What a great place for a great lunch. I have had dinner there also and it was fantastic. Daniel our sever was excellent and extremely helpful in offering suggestions. Enjoy all. -
This is a hidden little spot for sure. If you are trying to find it look down the alley by the Durham Hotel. The sign for the restaurant is not too big, so it can be easily missed.
Food for the price was ok I am a sushi critic and this was good but not something i would say really order again.
The ambience was a vibe. I would recommend getting a reservation. They do have very limited seating.
Parking garage is about less than one block away. On the weekends, I guess after a certain time is free because we were able to get out of the deck without paying. -
I do not take the best photos but these were worth a 1k words easily. Best meal sub $150 per person with tip we have had in a really long time. 2nd or 3rd time we have been here and we will definitely be back. The cost was high because we splurged on A5 wagyu ($70) which was a generous portion BTW. $60 for the bento box or 75$ for the Nagiri tasting is a great value. Treat yourself, or someone else, you(se) will not be disappointed. -
My newlywed husband and I went to M Sushi to celebrate our marriage, and the experience was absolutely unforgettable. We mentioned that we had just gotten married, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special with complimentary items and such thoughtful, genuine hospitality.
M Sushi has always been my favorite sushi spot in Durham, and this visit reminded me why. The fish is consistently fresh, the flavors are incredible, and the quality is unmatched. You truly will not find another sushi place like this in the area. Every single visit is perfection.
I also love their M Sushi location. Their omakase experience is an absolute must and something everyone should try at least once.
If you’re celebrating something special or just want the best sushi around, M Sushi is the place. We’ll be back again and again. 🍣✨
