I was booked at the Red Roof, but due to my own error, and them being sold out, I had to find a new pet-friendly hotel at the last minute. I saw the IHG and immediately booked it on Hotels.com.
I checked in with Harrison, who was an absolute delight. He was patient with me while I had issues with making the pet fee even though I was stressed out beyond all belief and obviously upset with the issues I was having.
The hotel itself was splendid, clean, and well lit. The room was spacious, clean, and new. There were loads of outlets all over the room, the bathroom had nice soaps and shampoos/conditioners, and a hairdryer, and the water pressure was amazing. The bed was comfy, with loads of pillows. Lots of lighting and electric outlets. The room also had a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave, with a nicely sized closet and drawers, a couch and a coffee table.
The breakfast was probably the best breakfast I've had at a hotel in a very, very, long time. The eggs, sausage and bacon were perfect. They had cereals, oatmeals, bread, fruits, eggs, bacon and sausage, with milk and juices available.
The hotel is very secure, with access at night only allowed if you had a key, or by ringing the front door bell. I felt very safe walking my dogs in the field beside the hotel, as it was well lit and VERY clean. The whole parking lot was just insanely clean. I didn't see a single cigarette butt anywhere.
The area is very close to dining, shopping and the highway. Everything I did was about 20 minutes away.
I absolutely plan to stay here when I come back, as I travel to Durham a few times a year.
The only thing I really disliked, was that the pet fee is $75.00 no matter if you stay a day or 5 days, and if you have one dog, or two. I had two dogs and only stayed the one day, so $75.00 is a pretty steep fee. Most hotels I stay at have a pet fee of $15-$25 per pet, per day, some even allowing one pet for free, and the other pet costs. But I travel with my dogs everywhere, so I often am looking for a hotel that is safe and accepts my dogs and me. -
I had a great experience at the Holiday Inn Express Durham. The hotel was clean, modern, and comfortable from the moment I walked in. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and quick to help with anything I needed, which really made the stay feel easy.
My room was spotless, well-maintained, and surprisingly spacious. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were perfect, and the shower had great water pressure. I also appreciated the small touches—strong Wi-Fi, plenty of outlets, and a quiet atmosphere even though the hotel was busy.
Breakfast was another highlight. The selection was fresh, well-stocked, and better than most “express” hotels—hot items, pastries, fruit, and of course, the signature cinnamon rolls. A great way to start the day.
Location is a big plus too. The hotel is close to Duke, downtown Durham, great food spots, and the highways. Super convenient whether you’re visiting for business, school, or a quick weekend trip.
Overall, the Holiday Inn Express Durham delivers everything you want in a dependable, comfortable hotel. Clean rooms, excellent staff, good breakfast, and a great location. I’d definitely stay here again. -
This is a really great location, there’s a lot of restaurants nearby like kickback jacks, and grocery stores and it is very close to the job site where I am working last time. I had a room with my roommate. It was good and nice size room. The service was very good although we stayed for 13 days in total and the last two days I can tell that the room service people took a break one night because I’m sure they wanted to see how dirty we would get it but they took care of the room every day before that so I’m sure they just wanted to take a break before we actually left the day after, but they did a really great job and keep up the good work! The water fountain in the gym doesn’t work, which is very unfortunate but I think they’re having a lot of renovations done. At least they did have two gentlemen who were fixing up something with the ceiling and the lights in the buffet breakfast area, also the breakfast lady was very nice. Her name is Shirley and she did an excellent job every day and so did her friend from Washington state I couldn’t say more great things about them.! Also the one day my toilet got clogged the people who do maintenance did a very good job the very same day they had it fixed, so I was very thankful for that too! -
Breakfast was great! The woman working the breakfast area was so sweet and busted her butt to make a nice presentation. Front desk staff, a woman, was extremely rude! She had zero customer service skills. She called to tell us they had no room keys and we can cancel our room. It was 9pm! How can I cancel and find somewhere else to stay? When I tried to clarify with her what it meant that they had no keys, she hung up on me. Then when we finally arrived she argued with me about hanging on me instead of explaining the room key situation. We proceeded with check in, knowing we would be locked in our room all night. When she said security will take you upstairs to unlock the room, we waited for security. Then she rudely asked why are you standing there; what do you need?! We told her, you said to wait for security. Then she says oh no they are waiting for you upstairs. So why not say that from the beginning? The gentleman who let us in our room barely spoke any English and none of his words made sense. This was very unprofessional customer service. Especially late at night after a long day of travel. -
I had a horrible experience at holiday inn Durham. I checking in at the front for a room, and they gave me a room that was already occupied. Not knowing that until I got there, my key card wasn’t working and the couple that was in the room came to the door startled asking why I’m trying to enter their room. We go to the front desk to learn that they double booked the room, they didn’t even know someone was already in the room. It gets worse, people started contacting the front desk that someone was going around the outside of all the windows knocking on everyone’s windows at 10 at night, not the kind of experience you want in your hotel room. They also informed the front desk that there were people in the back parking lot smoking crack. The cops were called and had to patrol the premises. Horrible experience and definitely don’t recommend staying here.
