Really curious about West African cuisine so my partner picked it up to bring home. They must’ve been kind enough to help him because he called me asking which protein I wanted in the soup.
It’s absolutely delicious: the jollof rice has a sort of smoky flavor to it like it was cooked on a campfire, the Egusi was 💣
This was my first time having this kind of food so there were no expectations going into, just excitement 😅
Definitely going back to try more dishes! -

I ordered the assorted Efo Riro with pounded yam and a side of rice from Gifted Hands Cuisine and it was beyond amazing! This was rich, flavorful, authentic, fresh, and cooked with obvious love and skill. You can truly taste the authenticity in every bite. Absolutely delicious!
Mary was also incredibly sweet, polite, welcoming, and patient. Her customer service alone deserves applause. If you’re unfamiliar with the cuisine, simply ask questions and Mary will gladly guide you with kindness and professionalism.
Honestly, there’s no need for the negative reviews because the food is undeniably good. Let’s support local businesses that are working hard to bring authentic cultural dishes to the community instead of tearing them down. Every cuisine may not be familiar to everyone, but that’s exactly why we learn, explore, and appreciate different cultures.
Highly recommend Gifted Hands Cuisine if you want authentic, comforting, flavorful food made by genuinely kind people. I will definitely be ordering again! -
I’ve been coming here for a while because it’s hard to find authentic African/Caribbean food done well, and the flavor is honestly always good. The food tastes homemade, seasoned properly, and reminds me why I keep supporting this place. I really do love having an authentic spot like this in the area.
That being said, the portions lately have been really disappointing for the prices. I paid almost $7 for a side of cabbage and the container was barely even half full. I’ve also noticed over time that the portions overall seem to be getting smaller. My last plate was around $35 and barely had any meat or vegetables on it.
As a chef, I understand food cost and I completely understand prices have gone up everywhere, but if customers are paying premium prices, the portions should reflect that. I’m leaving this review because I genuinely want to keep supporting this restaurant and hope they take the feedback into consideration. The food quality is there, the portion consistency just needs improvement. -
Went to Gifted Hands. Ordered what appeared to be an egg based soup. I am a pescatarian. I asked the server what were the components of the soup, she never mentioned it containing meat. She mentioned it was a pepper based spicy soup. I went to the eat it and realized it was a variety of meats in there. Went back to the restaurant to hopefully get something that did not contain meat and she said she couldn’t do anything about it and also said she told me what was in it but she never mentioned the meat and said she did me a favor by adding extra meat, that I never asked for. But to make up for me now not being able to eat lunch, she gave me an egg so that’s amazing. Won’t be going back there.

So, we took a trip over to Gifted Hands on N. Duke St. (Used to be Golden Crust) to try out their food. As I’ve stated before, I usually go to Hady’s Restaurant International Cuisine to get my African food because they have the best African food and awesome service. I do realize that they are from Senegal at Hady’s. I think they are from Nigeria at Gifted Hands. But let me tell you this, I have never received the type of service that I received at this place. Now, I have to extend them some grace because they seemed to have a party going on when we went in to order, and it was loud. With that being said, the first item I ordered wasn’t available and neither were 3 out of the 4 swallows. Ok, that’s fine. Now, I ordered 2 full plates and a side of Jollof rice. This is what I got for $70.78. Not even a full bowl if you combine both meals. I saw the amount of food that was placed in the bowls and I asked if that was the full serving. She said yes. I am so disappointed. When I got home, the food was cold and I had to microwave it. I haven’t even tried the food yet and I am pretty sure I will not be returning to Gifted Hands unless they correct their portion sizes. I feel like I was cheated. This would never have happened at Hady’s. Here it is. Judge for yourself. Now, mind you, the bowls are already smaller than most places. Smh. Now, I won’t say anything about the flavors of the food because people make food differently in different countries. However I will say this, I am a Jollof rice connoisseur. I love it. No matter how many spices you use, you can tell when the rice has been burned. My Jollof rice was burned. It smelled burned. It tasted burnt. 😢 My experience with Gifted Hands was underwhelming.
