Cocoa Cinnamon - Lakewood
When Areli Barrera de Grodski and Leon Grodski de Barrera opened their third Cocoa Cinnamon location in Lakewood (featuring delicious homemade churros and drinking chocolate), they intentionally hired locals to craft their bold beverages and continue their commitment to the Durham community by encouraging those who can to donate toward coffee for those who can't afford it. Order a churro or two and check out the original bike they outfitted to grind and serve coffee around town when they opened a decade ago on display.

It was busy on a Wednesday afternoon—I snagged the last parking spot. I tried their churros, which were fresh and coated in four different flavors. The harvest and cardamom stood out with a great balance of spicy and sweet.

I always love stopping by cocoa cinnamon when i’m in durham. I love all the outdoor seating they have because i love to bring my dog! I ordered inside and got a guadalajara hot chocolate and loop churro and it was perfect for a cool fall morning. Everything came out in about 10 mins. There was also plenty of indoor seating as well

Delicious quick stop this morning for my iced mocha latte and got some amazing blueberry cream cheese danishes. Great little coffee shop great service and awesome coffee!!!

I’ve been going to Cocoa Cinnamon for years. This location is my favorite study/work spot. The drinks are on the more expensive side if you compare it to an average coffee shop, but the drink quality, consistency l, and ease of finding a place to sit make it worth it. Solid coffees and matcha, a selection of caffeinated and non caffeinated teas, as well as some very creative original drinks. The pastries are local and delicious, as are the churros, though all very glutinous. They used to have gluten-free balls for sale, but haven’t had them in a while (= the only reason I gave food 4 stars). Variety of milk alternatives and you’re usually able to ask for sweetness adjustments. Great staff and customer service.
