The room was nice, the staff friendly and location was close to hospital which we needed. The café to get coffee was a great bonus. I would use a bit of caution in January during a cold snap. The hot water did not work nor was the parking lot clear where I slipped and fell while loading the car and got hurt. Had friends who were staying for the next 2 nights, that I gave heads up about hot water. They asked specifically before checking in if the hot water was fixed, told yes. But the two nights of their stay had no hot water also. I rarely do a google review but felt this time I needed to do one. -
I stayed here with my 82-year-old mother in January. The hotel has a somewhat rustic feel, but the staff and location made it well worth it.
The shuttle driver, Harry Daniels, was outstanding—prompt, reliable, and always there within minutes of my call. During a stressful time, his kindness meant a great deal, even proactively getting my mom a wheelchair upon arrival at Duke each time. Sunshine at the coffee/snack bar truly lives up to her name.
The main drawback was the room layout for someone with mobility issues. There’s a lip at the bathroom entrance that made using a walker difficult, and the shower has no door. The room is also on the smaller side.
I would recommend staying here for the exceptional staff, just be aware of the rustic feel and room limitations. -
Close to the hospital, so very convenient. They have a shuttle, if you can get them to respond. They sent me a welcome text when I got there, and the next day I texted back twice to be picked up after my wife’s surgery, no response. I walked quite a ways with a cane to get back to the hotel to get my car so I could pick her up. The staff told me that they are thinking of eliminating the text feature, so they ignore it. I had a handicapped room with shower seat and handheld shower wand both broken. The bed was uncomfortable. I will not return. -
Fantastic experience! Staff was so friendly and helpful. Rooms were immaculate and perfect for our situation. If you or a loved one is having medical treatment at Duke University Hospital and need extra accommodations, THIS is the place to stay!! Their shuttle service and Mr. Harry Daniels will get you where you need to go and back again (7a-7p). Couldn't recommend more highly! -
The smell of wet mildew throughout the hotel . As soon as you walk into it and gets worse once you get to the room. They have a water problem and at 2am woke up and the hole floor was wet and anything you had was wet feeling to include all the beds, the clothing you had hung up . Come to find out they also have a mold problem which I have reported to the Durham health department and they will be come out to investigate this matter. We stayed there before and never had this problem and when I simply called to tell the management staff about what was going on they got rude and told us we just can leave . Which we did and went across the street to a hotel without a mold or water problem. Due better when someone tells you there is a health matter to include mold and water problems dont get mad simply look i to the matter and find a way to get it fixed.
