I stayed here with my 82-year-old mother in January. The hotel has a somewhat rustic feel, but the staff and location made it well worth it.

The shuttle driver, Harry Daniels, was outstanding—prompt, reliable, and always there within minutes of my call. During a stressful time, his kindness meant a great deal, even proactively getting my mom a wheelchair upon arrival at Duke each time. Sunshine at the coffee/snack bar truly lives up to her name.

The main drawback was the room layout for someone with mobility issues. There’s a lip at the bathroom entrance that made using a walker difficult, and the shower has no door. The room is also on the smaller side.

I would recommend staying here for the exceptional staff, just be aware of the rustic feel and room limitations.

The smell of wet mildew throughout the hotel . As soon as you walk into it and gets worse once you get to the room. They have a water problem and at 2am woke up and the hole floor was wet and anything you had was wet feeling to include all the beds, the clothing you had hung up . Come to find out they also have a mold problem which I have reported to the Durham health department and they will be come out to investigate this matter. We stayed there before and never had this problem and when I simply called to tell the management staff about what was going on they got rude and told us we just can leave . Which we did and went across the street to a hotel without a mold or water problem. Due better when someone tells you there is a health matter to include mold and water problems dont get mad simply look i to the matter and find a way to get it fixed.

If you are having surgery at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, you can't do better than The Lodge at Duke Medical Center! You are 1 block from the hospital (as close as the hospital parking deck!) & the service is top-notch. The rooms are clean & quiet & the mattresses are comfortable. The coffee & sandwich bar was a great amenity for my sister who accompanied me. The selection & service were good & the sandwich came freshly grilled. The only reason I dinged them a star for rooms & service is I forgot my iPhone charger & the rooms aren't equipped with charging stations. When I called the Front Desk, my only option was to leave my phone downstairs & use someone's personal charging cable. 😕 Overall, though, I highly recommend The Lodge at Duke University! Just don't forget your phone charger! 😁

We had a great stay. After a problem we had as a different hotel, we moved to this Lodge and the wonderful young woman at the front desk- Dani- was amazing. She was so helpful and kind and understanding and just felt like a ray of sunshine. We had a wonderful experience with her and our stay was great. I was hesitant about the hotel when I saw it from the outside, but it’s wonderful inside and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommend it and thanks to Dani again! I hope management takes it into consideration!

Was told to leave after letting the front desk know they had a moisture problem and dampness issue in our room. Grandma couldnt wear her shawl from the night before that was hanging up due to it being damp and wet that was hanging up on the wall. Found the damprid box on top of the cabinet today. They knew the room had a problem and still put us in the room. Granddaughter had surgery at the hospital this morning and instead of being there having to deal with this. Pictures to prove. Not a sorry. Not move to a different room. It was you can leave our rooms are not up to your standards. A dry room is too much to ask for where water isnt ponding up on the floor and making everything wet? Mold in the damprid box too and full of water.. It'd been there for a while. Normally stay here everytime we come for surgeries. Never again. Management and owners really need to see what is going on in their hotel. Anyone would be irritated and upset when they find a damprid box in their hotel room knowing management or someone at the place of business knew about the issue and still put full paying customers in a room that was unfit for people to stay in. Not a discounted rate, full price.
