I would rate my stay a 3 out of 5. The overall experience was good, and it would have easily been a 4 if not for an issue with the airport shuttle.
To start with the positives, the room was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The hotel staff we interacted with were friendly, and overall the stay itself was pleasant.
However, the experience with the airport shuttle was very stressful and significantly impacted our departure. As visitors unfamiliar with the city and airport, we relied on the shuttle service to get us to the correct terminal. The hotel had collected our airline information in advance, so we assumed the driver would take us to the appropriate location.
Unfortunately, we were dropped off at the wrong terminal. We proceeded through security, only to realize our gate was not there. Airport staff then directed us to an entirely different terminal in a separate building. This resulted in us having to exit, transfer, and go through security a second time.
We ultimately made our flight with less than five minutes to spare after rushing across the airport, but the situation could have easily resulted in us missing it. When I contacted the hotel to explain what happened, I was told that it was not the driver’s responsibility. Given that we were unfamiliar with the airport and had provided our airline details, I believe clearer communication or guidance from the driver would have been appropriate.
While I’m grateful we made our flight, the situation was avoidable and added unnecessary stress. I’m sharing this feedback so future guests are aware and can double-check their terminal before exiting the shuttle.
Overall, a good stay with a comfortable room and kind staff, but the shuttle experience is something that should be improved -
I stayed here for two nights while attending a UNC graduation. At first glance, the place seemed reasonably clean and decent. Unfortunately, that impression did not survive very long.
I later noticed an open hole in the ceiling, which is never exactly a confidence booster. Then came the real highlight: water backing up into my sink whenever the room above me flushed the toilet. Nothing says “relaxing hotel stay” quite like wondering whether your bathroom sink is becoming part of the building’s sewage system.
The room was also poorly stocked from the start. There was barely any toilet paper, and the coffee station was basically decorative. A couple of K-cups were there, but no sugar or proper supplies.
The folding doors between the sitting area and bed had no knobs. The knobs were placed in the door and fell out when used.
On the second day, there was no attempt to clean the room at all. They did bring towels when I asked, but apparently basic housekeeping was not part of the experience.
The rooms are large, so I’ll give them that. But size does not make up for questionable cleanliness, missing supplies, no housekeeping, a ceiling hole, and possible toilet water making a guest appearance in the sink.
Overall: not pleasant, not clean enough, and definitely not somewhere I’d stay again. -
DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Raleigh-Durham is currently being remodeled, and the updated rooms are excellent. I stayed on a renovated floor, and my suite felt brand new—clean, crisp, and well done. The layout is exactly what a suite should be, with a full kitchenette, separate living area, and a large bedroom. Plenty of space to spread out, very quiet, and great light-blocking curtains. Everything worked well, with good water pressure and hot water.
Construction was visible in spots but caused no inconvenience.
The biggest issue is front desk hospitality. Check-in felt robotic, no cookie was offered, and most of the stay I was not acknowledged when passing the desk. One employee did greet me properly, but that was the exception. Checkout was similar—staff on the phone didn’t acknowledge me at all.
Lobby coffee was very weak, and the urn was empty before checkout time. Also note: the room says checkout is 12:00 p.m., but the app lists 11:00 a.m., which could cause confusion.
Overall, the remodeled rooms are a win—spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Service at the front desk needs improvement. -
Really nice hotel. Under construction but you can't tell. The staff was welcoming and helpful when needed. Plenty of free parking. Rooms were renovated and really nice. If there were neighbors you couldn't hear them. Would stay again if in Durham. -
Old but well kept hotel. Rooms are very spacious & clean. Staff is very friendly! Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, plenty of towels.
There are a lot of better locations nearby if you need. Near the mall especially.
Location leaves a lot to be desired. Off main road with many homeless/panhadlers. Near a motel that houses homeless etc. Hotel is set back. Very tall trees, feels very dark. A lot of people hanging out in parking lot, smoking cigarettes &...
Not bright or cheerful at all. Pond smells terrible. Nothing near by for food. Some areas are under construction in hotel. They are definitely trying their hardest to keep it up. It is a very busy hotel. Kinds running in hallway. I wouldn't stay here again.
