This was my 2nd time eating here and it was just as good as the first time. We ordered online and when we arrived it was already ready to go. Very quick process, everyone is friendly and greets you when you walk in the door. We ordered pork chop with Mac n cheese and green beans. Catfish with Mac n cheese and collards. Portions are great and it was absolutely delicious 😋. Try the strawberry peach lemonade as well!

This was my first visit to this restaurant, and I was unaware that it was not the traditional sit-down type. The menu offered a variety of options, with the candied yams looking really good. I chose the pork chops, candied yams, and macaroni and cheese. My mother selected the turkey wings, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese, while my cousin opted for the fish and candied yams.
The serving sizes were unexpectedly large, and the candied yams were every bit as delicious as I had expected. The food was superb. I was so impressed that I requested the hotel to package my leftovers, which I then took with me on my return flight home.

Soul food here in the Triangle is so hit or miss but Durham seems to have established themselves as the Soul Food Mecca of the Triangle.
That being said Soul Forking Good may be the pinnacle of those establishments.
I knew the food has to be good from the line literally wrapped around the building when I entered their parking lot and it did not disappoint.
There was a bit of aversion upon looking at the menu and realizing to have what I thought was quality portions I was going to be paying almost $90 dollars to feed my family of three if I was feeding us all from the establishment that day but upon ordering a three piece catfish plate I quickly realized the error of my ways.
At a nearly $30 price point I was initially repulsed and prepared to have a fit if I received 3 little fillets and a mountain of fries to try to justify the expense but what I got quickly made me realize this place didn't skimp like others do.
The fillets looked like that had been carved off a 40lb fish and the fries were seasoned to perfection. I also loved that this establishment believes in seasoning the fish as well as the batter and that makes a huge difference in flavor profile.
This place is truly one of the best establishments for soul food and worth the wait. -
Let me start with the positives:
The fried whiting was fire. Seasoned to perfection and served hot. Definitely some of the best I’ve had. Yams were great. Kind of mushy, but great flavor. Mac and cheese also well seasoned and cheesy. Chopped steak was good, but didn’t have peppers and onions like the picture showed. The flavor and gravy were good though. The cornbread was also really good, but the portion was small. It was sweet, had a cake like texture, and was light.
Negatives: The greens were terrible. Very peppery and unseasoned yet salty. I could taste no smoked meat or anything in them, and they had a weird aftertaste. I’m wondering now if they were canned. The rice was also off. Like Uncle Ben’s or something. For what I paid, I expected more. The prices could be cheaper because they’re about 15-20% higher than other places for the same food. Cornbread was extra and the size of the $5 sides are lacking. We might be back, but won’t be in a hurry. VATP is better, IMO. -
If you’re looking for authentic, unforgettable soul food, this place absolutely delivers. From the first bite, you can taste the love and tradition in every dish. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy with that homemade flavor you just can’t fake. And the collard greens? Tender, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection.
The portions were generous, the service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt like Sunday dinner at grandma’s house. It’s clear that quality and care go into every plate that comes out of the kitchen.
Hands down some of the best soul food I’ve had in a long time. I’ll definitely be back — and bringing friends.
