Dave Hause and The Mermaid w/ Hot Brains at Stanczyks

The Mermaid is the band behind Dave Hause’s latest record, …And The Mermaid, bringing together Hause’s signature songwriting and surging melodies with the raw energy of a full rock and punk band. The current lineup features Hause alongside his brother Tim Hause on guitar and vocals, Luke Preston on bass, Mark Masefield on keys, and Kevin Conroy on drums. After years of Hause’s solo work leaning toward Americana and singer-songwriter territory, The Mermaid marks a return to the plugged-in, high-energy sound that defined his punk roots. Recorded in Vancouver with producer Jesse Gander, …And The Mermaid is the first album Hause has recorded with the band and features songwriting contributions from the entire group. Built around themes of survival, nostalgia, community, and resilience, the record captures the energy of simply “plugging in and turning up.”

Joining them is Chapel Hill's own Hot Brains, a punk rock and power pop outfit established in June 2017. A fixture of the Triangle's local rock scene, the band has brought its sound to stages around the area, including Local 506, The Cave, and The Pinhook. With a fitting motto of “Bring on the asteroid already,” Hot Brains brings a dose of local punk energy to the bill.
