We really enjoyed our first visit to Nan Xiang Express in Durham, North Carolina this week, and it left us eager to return.
We sampled a nice cross-section of the menu, including Wonton Soup, Hot & Sour Soup, Pork Siu Mai, Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce, and of course the Nan Xiang Signature Pork Soup Dumplings (see photos).
Every dish was flavorful and well prepared, with the soup dumplings easily stealing the show.
My wife and I had just returned from New York City, where we enjoyed soup dumplings at one of the most famous spots around, so our expectations were high. Impressively, the dumplings here at Nan Xiang Express — right in North Carolina — were every bit as satisfying.
Ordering was done at the front kiosks, and from that point on the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout, with plenty of smiling faces that made the experience even more enjoyable.
We’re very much looking forward to coming back to explore more of the menu, and we’re also excited to try the brand-new location that just opened in Raleigh. Highly recommended. -
Nan Xiang Express in Durham is a total gem. The moment you walk in, you can smell the amazing flavors coming from the kitchen. The crab and pork soup dumplings are rich and delicious, the crispy bottom bao has the perfect crunch, and the sweet and spicy wings are a must try. That is just the beginning of how good the menu is.
They also offer an impressive variety of boba teas. Whether you like fruity, creamy, or refreshing drinks, there is something for everyone and choosing just one is the hardest part.
The service is quick and efficient, which makes this a great spot for a fast lunch or a treat after a long day. Nan Xiang Express is definitely becoming one of my favorite places to eat in Durham. Highly recommend! -
We got a few items to try. Most lacked flavor and nothing too special. The scallion pancake was tasty. The employees weren’t polite. -
The food here is absolutely terrible especially from an Asian pov. None of the food is anywhere good aside from boba is OK. The soup dumpling skin is too thick and flavor is meh. The chicken is especially dry and also flavorless. A bit fried too long is prob cause of dryness. The noodles are on the oily side. Not inedible but not great either. Furthermore the ride that came the chicken combo is a very large portion but too dry (not fresh) -
Atmosphere and service were good, no complaints there. Food is entirely too expensive. We ordered variants of the fried rice, zero flavor, definitely not worth $15. The Pork dumplings were not even cooked. They were pink and slimy. Spend your money at your local mom and pop Chinese place instead.
