I had such a wonderful experience with Skyler at Rock Paper Scissors in Durham. She really listened to what I wanted and made me feel completely comfortable the entire time. I especially appreciated that she didn’t force conversation. It felt calm, respectful, and very attuned to my energy, which made the appointment genuinely relaxing.

She took her time, paid attention to the details, and the result was exactly what I hoped for. I’ve gotten so many compliments since, and I honestly feel so good about my hair. Thank you, Skyler, for such a thoughtful and affirming experience. I’ll absolutely be back!

I am completely satisfied- and so is my daughter, with Kara’s talent, giving life, shape and definition to my daughter’s curly hair! See for yourself! 😍 I would have left Kara a deserving tip, but I am genuinely struggling to meet-ends. 😭 Anyway, I did enjoy my visit to this salon. Everyone released nothing but good vibes into the atmosphere of the salon, and I felt welcomed. For example, the receptionist (was wearing light blue jeans with white stars decoration) offered me a seat so that I didn’t have to stand while Kara took care of my daughter. Great music also flooded the salon! 😊 I definitely recommend you check out this LGBTQIA friendly salon!

This is such a lovely salon! By far the best experience I've had at any salon in the area since I moved here 10 years ago.

The space is so cozy, comfy and welcoming. Everyone I interacted with was very kind. I went to Kara for a cut and she was wonderful. She treated me like she knew me already and was so much fun to work with on creating a hairstyle that I would be happy with. She seriously knew how to bring out the most in my curls! My hair is so much easier to manage and I'm having so much fun with it.

This is definitely where I will be going from now on.

Excellent and affirming experience! Gavin understood what I was asking for and my hair is exactly what I wanted. Highly recommend Rock Paper Scissors, everyone was friendly and professional, location was convenient, price was totally reasonable, and they're accommodating of masking or other needs.

UPDATED 8/13/26: the salon called me after this review and refunded me the overcharged hour plus 20% of the hour since I tipped on the four hour amount. I appreciate them making it right. Be sure to double check the amount before check out.

I unfortunately left disappointed after a decent first experience in the salon. They quoted me initially during a consultation for 3 hours from 1-4pm. When I arrived for my appointment, my stylist took me 20min after my appointment time started as she was busy with another customer. We ended the appointment at 4:22 and I assumed it would still be 3 hours given the delayed start. The receptionist pulled the price up to have the stylist confirm. The stylist shrugged and said “we started a bit late but that’s fine.” Then I saw the price and they added a full hour to the total price. After tip, it was over $460. Given it was my first time I felt overwhelmed and didn’t say anything as I didn’t want to cause a scene. I regret not speaking up in the moment. However I don’t recommend people go here as they may do the same to you. I won’t be returning.
