We really enjoyed our first visit to Nan Xiang Express in Durham, North Carolina this week, and it left us eager to return.
We sampled a nice cross-section of the menu, including Wonton Soup, Hot & Sour Soup, Pork Siu Mai, Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce, and of course the Nan Xiang Signature Pork Soup Dumplings (see photos).
Every dish was flavorful and well prepared, with the soup dumplings easily stealing the show.
My wife and I had just returned from New York City, where we enjoyed soup dumplings at one of the most famous spots around, so our expectations were high. Impressively, the dumplings here at Nan Xiang Express — right in North Carolina — were every bit as satisfying.
Ordering was done at the front kiosks, and from that point on the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout, with plenty of smiling faces that made the experience even more enjoyable.
We’re very much looking forward to coming back to explore more of the menu, and we’re also excited to try the brand-new location that just opened in Raleigh. Highly recommended. -
Nan Xiang Express in Durham is a total gem. The moment you walk in, you can smell the amazing flavors coming from the kitchen. The crab and pork soup dumplings are rich and delicious, the crispy bottom bao has the perfect crunch, and the sweet and spicy wings are a must try. That is just the beginning of how good the menu is.
They also offer an impressive variety of boba teas. Whether you like fruity, creamy, or refreshing drinks, there is something for everyone and choosing just one is the hardest part.
The service is quick and efficient, which makes this a great spot for a fast lunch or a treat after a long day. Nan Xiang Express is definitely becoming one of my favorite places to eat in Durham. Highly recommend! -
I ordered the pork dumplings, sesame chicken bowl, and braised beef noodle soup, and honestly, I was disappointed.
✅️ The sesame chicken bowl tasted like frozen chicken thrown into an air fryer, with just three pieces of broccoli and dry rice on the side — all for $15. It felt extremely underwhelming for the price.
✅️ If I had to pick one dish that was at least acceptable, it would be the braised beef noodle soup. Beef was soft and tender and the portion was large.
✅️ The pork dumplings were also not good. Trader Joe’s frozen dumplings that I make at home taste better.
🙁 Overall, the food quality did not match the price at all. -
We got a few items to try. Most lacked flavor and nothing too special. The scallion pancake was tasty. The employees weren’t polite. -
I wish I could have given this much higher rating but my food was so bland. I mean no seasoning or spices at all. The portion and pricing is a bit off as well.... but I wouldn't mind that if my food was delicious.... even good... it was so bland. Maybe I need to try their most popular dish which are the soup dumplings because the items I had were a miss. The ambiance was nice tho....
