Charming little spot! I walked in randomly for a quick lunch on-the-go nearby (first time in Durham!) and found this place! Had been seeing empanadas all around me lately, but never tried them, so I gave them a try today! Did not disappoint. The cashier was also very friendly when I asked if I could get some recommendations!
The "Abuela's Chicken" empanadas was my favourite 😋! Did not know they came with dipping sauces but I liked the white-ish green one (don't know the name, my bad!). I also got the Beef empanada and it was a sweet and savoury one. It was good too, the sweetness of it was unexpected! But still very very good. They were not overly greasy or salty, so it was great. Definitely coming back one day, when I am visiting Durham again. -

Koki is a beautiful place to come with family or friend. Friendly personnel. Food is good. Price is a little high but I guess all depend of the location. Fast service. Only cons is, as first time visitor, we didn't know what to do, either going ahead and seat or wait in the front entrance to be received. Good suggestion, please place a stand sign with a scan code for instructions or maybe in writing of what should do once we are in the main room.
Overall 3.6... always space for improvement...wish koki a success in their business. -
Puertorican from Charlotte! Stopped here for the first time trying to find good boricua food and this place nailed it. Empanadas, arroz con gandules, arroz y habichuelas, queso frito, pernil, everything was on point. The vegan picadillo was a great option and well seasoned. Everything flavorful and food came in a timely manner. Great spot!

Koki feels like a little Puerto Rican flavor party tucked into a bright, artsy space 🌴🇵🇷—and honestly, the food backs up the vibe.
We tried the Fountain of Youth and La Fonda, plus a round of empanadas, and everything came out generous and seriously satisfying. The plates had that perfect balance of comfort and punch—warm rice, savory beans, crispy edges where you want them, and meats that actually taste like they’ve been loved in the kitchen, not rushed out the door.
The empanadas were a standout: golden, crisp, and stuffed like they meant it (none of that sad, hollow situation). Paired with the sauces, they disappeared fast.
Portions are no joke here and you’re not leaving hungry unless you try very hard. And the whole place has this colorful, easygoing energy that makes you want to linger a bit longer than planned.
Overall: flavorful, filling, and fun. Koki delivers big on taste and portion size, exactly what you want when you’re craving bold, comforting Puerto Rican food. -
The chicken sandwich was pulled chicken it was really good & had lots of flavors. The Empanada was my disappointment... I asked for chicken & got beef, but the complaint is that the beef was more of a paste, instead of like ground beef. The texture almost felt like refried beans...... other than that, everything was good. The staff was also super friendly & made the experience more enjoyable. The atmosphere was also enjoying the painting & just little knickknacks representing puerto Rico was nice.
