High Dive brings a fresh take on a fun, “stylish dive bar” experience, which is no surprise given it’s owned by the same people behind Bar Virgle and Annexe. It’s easy to make yourself at home surrounded by Durham memorabilia as you munch on free, freshly popped popcorn, shuffle through the vintage jukebox, catch a game on TV, order some melty cheese nachos with a cheap beer, or play a round of pool darts, foosball or pinball. There are also non-alcoholic beers and cocktails on the menu.

I found this gem after a show at DPAC. I had intentions of bar hopping but stayed here the entire night. The bartender Gabe is one of the best bartenders I’ve interacted with. As a bartender myself, I’ve interacted with my fair share. He’s friendly and outgoing. I didn’t have to wait for drinks as he was attentive as soon as I approached the bar.

I had a great time shooting pool, playing darts, and talking to the locals. If there were metal signs with their logo, I’d have bought one to add to my collection.

I’ll definitely be back.

12/7/24 - a spot that's open until 2am! We had fun getting some drinks and playing darts. The bartender was super cool and nice.
The atmosphere felt like where locals go. They had some other games to play like pool, and arcade games. They even have an older Juke box.

I have been eagerly awaiting High Dive to open in downtown Durham and it did not disappoint. It is located in the old Quarter Horse location, and has the same owners as Bar Virgile and Annexe. I loved the Durham memorabilia inside and the casual atmosphere. They have several TVs playing sports as well as lots of games such as pinball, pool, foosball, darts, and Golden Tee. There is also a jukebox and free popcorn machine. Aside from drink options, patrons can also order nachos.

Walked in, immediately felt out of place. I travel a lot, new city every day, walk in to a lot of local dives all over the country, have never felt so alienated. They’ve got pinball, games and one 7’ pool table, basic bar scene, minimal seating aside from the bar and a couple high tops. Not sure what else they’ve got going on.

I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re not already a regular/local. They don’t seem to take well to it. Definitely don’t come here if you’ve got an SC (or any other out of state) ID LOL.

Would have been nice to try out this bar if the Bartender hadn’t rudely refused my entry, as my (very much so real drivers license) SC ID was “too flexible” despite my offering other forms of identification, including 4 matching credit cards, matching passport, etc. I understand the law, whatever, but I am very obviously well over 21, and offered plenty of solutions.

Maybe I’d have had a different opinion/review to write in the case that I’d spent more than 5 minutes in here. But there wasn’t much going on anyway.

Not going to break my back to spend money at a place I’m not welcome. Bartender was mean about it, couldn’t be bothered to see any other legally accepted form of ID (according to NC ABC Laws)

Won’t be coming back, obviously.

Really good place. Good atmosphere with pool table, arcades, cheap drinks. The bartender, James, is really friendly and welcoming. We're definitely going back.
