Returning our Hertz rental at Raleigh‑Durham International Airport was incredibly easy and efficient. We had rented the vehicle at another airport, and I was pleasantly surprised by how seamless the return process was at RDU.
The Hertz facility is designed with a drive‑through tunnel equipped with bright lighting and an array of cameras. It’s a smart, modern setup that appears to use advanced technology, possibly even AI, to compare the vehicle’s condition against the images taken when we originally picked it up. The entire process took only moments, but is concerning if a bill will show up for something.
The staff on site were helpful and welcoming, ready to answer questions and make sure the return was completed without any stress. After a long trip, that level of efficiency and professionalism was truly appreciated.
Shuttle service to the Terminal was quick and easy.
Overall, this was one of the smoothest rental car returns I’ve experienced. Hertz at RDU has clearly invested in making the process fast, fair, and convenient for travelers. Highly recommended. -
I’m honestly a bit disappointed in my first rental experience with Hertz… I was able to add my driver info on the website but for whatever the reason the technology isn’t there to add another with the same process. I called and asked how to go about doing this and to check I didn’t miss where I could do it online, they said you have to do it inside before getting the car. We wait in line for 15 or so minutes to then be told we do it on our way out. At the exit we don’t receive any communication on additional charges (we knew there would be but doesn’t fully make sense why I can add a spouse for free but not my travel buddy, but that’s a different topic). We were then given paperwork and ushered out.
Upon driving down the road ALL of the things were flashing and dinging on the screen, we did manage to figure out how to turn majority of them off, however the one we couldn’t control was the oil change alert. When I tell you I looked at the sticker for when it should have been done and where it was shocking. Over 14,000 miles past the needed oil change. WHAT!? We thought maybe, just maybe they didn’t reset the car but then I mentioned how unlikely it would be to not reset the car and the sticker so when we were going to our first planned thing after checking into our place to stay for the weekend we stopped to get the oil checked… it was so dark that I’m shocked the car was even still functioning. What company lets their maintenance go so unchecked yet over charges you to refill the gas at the end of you don’t do it…? So obviously we got an oil change, which wouldn’t be a problem to take 30-45 min of my day, but we were on vacation and that shouldn’t be a thing. I called Hertz to get a credit on my bill and the guy offered me a roadside assistance voucher, I asked to speak to someone else and he hung up on me, ok I’ll take care of it later after vacation.
The car did drive so much better than it was when we picked it up after we got the oil change but we were also thinking there might be a short in the turn signal as the left one would either not turn on at all sometimes or it wouldn’t turn off after making a turn, the right one did that on occasioni but the left every time.
Anyway, we returned the car and did get a refund. She was super nice about it but did have to say “they probably just didn’t reset the system after changing it.” No we checked. We also left the old sticker with the new on in the vehicle. I did two reviews about this in the emails given to rate your experience and because of the inconveniences I did give a low rate thinking someone might reach out, so far no one has. Yes, the refund was given, but the neglect to a vehicle they are renting out is what bothers me, especially with how they add all these other fees to your bill after you decided on the rate and signed online, if that’s how you choose to rent rather than when you land. -
Reservations are a must! Limited cars available on the rows, but I was assigned one in a spot and walked right to it. The Managers Special was a Ram 2500 truck, so be aware. -
The shuttle from the airport might have been the rudest woman I have ever encountered in the service industry. The car exterior was dirty with mass amounts of bird poop. The vehicle itself was clean inside and ran like a dream. It was giving 43mpg so I only had to top off a ½ tank before returning it to Thrifty. Every other employee after that first shuttle driver was polite, friendly and courteous -
The rental folks at Raleigh Durham airport were fantastic. I had left behind my backpack and after making contact with them, I received a call very shortly afterwards, telling me that they had located my backpack containing my laptop. Their representative was absolutely a top-notch professional, and really cared; she was so warm and so caring. She had the personal touch that every human being needs especially in a day and age when automation is getting so prevalent . Thank you, Hertz. You guys did an awesome job. Keep it up. I strongly recommend Hertz. They make it easy and they care.
