Elite cardboard gaming is my go to place to get Pokemon cards. Tom has a great selection of product and it’s always a pleasure stopping in to pick up some product. I have been doing business with this shop for a while now and I have never once been disappointed. I have pulled so many great BIG hits from this store. Not only is the product great from this store but the owner Tom is truly an awesome person. He isn’t just trying to sell product to people he builds relationships with his customers. If you have a question he is always more than happy to help in any way he can. He also has awesome workers like Ralph. I promise this place will not disappoint!! Please check this place out I promise you won’t be let down. Here are some of my recent pulls from product bought from Elite. Yes I pulled 2 of the mega Gengars from his shop, one was in a GOD pack. Always smiles when shopping at Elite!!!!!! -
Awesome little shop! The store is clean, the layout was easy to navigate, and the staff was nice.
My child and I were hunting down some trading cards and had already stopped at a few other stores that were entirely sold out before we got here.
He is just starting out his collection and had $20 bucks to start it. The staff was super nice to him and even gave him a deal to purchase his first ever 3 packs.
We will definitely be coming back when to get him some more cards in the future. -
I moved to the area a couple of years ago and was searching for a place where I could buy, trade, and actually play some games. I’m really glad I found ECG. They have a great selection of cards, and whenever I’ve been looking for pre-release events, they’ve always come through.
The community here is awesome! Friendly, but still competitive in the best way. Ralph and Tom are consistently welcoming and knowledgeable, which makes a big difference. At this point, it genuinely feels like I’ve found my home for cardboard gaming! -
I like to start with the good:
-I love the location. Cant think of a better spot for a TCG shop in Durham.
- The set up is sweet. A little jealous if I'm being honest.
- Good selection, and they give market on trade. (though I know people who have had different experiences)
- Ralph is super cool, and he's usually the one you'll deal with best I can tell.
- The people who complain about them not selling MSRP are lacking some perspective. For one, they're a small business. For two, if they had product at 5 dollars a pack they'd get swarmed every day at open.
And now the bad:
-It's really just the owner (Tim I think?). Everyone I know and have talked to in the community are not fans. I actually defended him for awhile, but then had my own interaction with him where he blew up at nothing and it just matched what I read and heard too much. Not sure he has the temperament for this. Thing is, if you take value from people's property in trade, and sell sealed well above MSRP (which again, that's just what it is. It's how card shops work and stay open) then you can't also be condescending and quick to snap. I poked my head in one day this week day and heard him yelling at some kid about deciding not to trade his cards once he heard the price they wanted to give him. Didn't even make it through the door, was enough for me.
-They charge a 5 dollar transaction fee on most transactions. Like if you buy a card for cash, 5 dollar fee. Buy a booster bundle, 5 dollar fee. Just seems greedy. Like if you want to charge a dollar or two to offset credit card transaction fees, that may be okay. I've seen that around and that makes some sense. But 5 for any transaction (outside of trade I think) is uncalled for.
Other card shops are a little bit of a drive, but worth it.
I do hope they figure it out, would love to have a shop I truly wanted to support close by. -
Stopped in today to try to catch a few commander games and pick up some product, Ralph was super helpful, introduced me to some regulars to get into a pod with and was super knowledgeable on product, helpful in advising which products were better than others and was very patient and cheerful the entire time I was in the store. I’ll definitely be back! Loved playing here and loved the atmosphere the staff have created.
