This is our favorite hotel in Durham. We check into this one, 3 times per year ( to move in, check out, visit our daughter at Duke University). It is the gem of Durham. Very clean, neat, modern, comfortable. We love the bar downstairs with the cozy dim lighting, and the blue neon lights. There are also many quaint areas to sit in, at the lobby. There is an adorable outside portion with many flowers in boxes, that are very inviting, and make you want to sit down and socialize, read, enjoy a drink. There are also multiple delicious and cute restaurants on the same block. Our bartender, Ashley, was stellar. She was so welcoming, and made us very comfortable. Ashley even introduced us to another Duke parent family at the bar, and contributed to us having a perfect night! Ashley recommended great spots in Durham, and her attentiveness and genuine personality, make this yet another reason to visit the AC Hotel. We are glad we found this treasure in Durham!

My family and I made an unplanned trip to the area and arrived with no scheduled accommodations. We chose this hotel based on location, handicap accessibility for my elderly mother, large accommodating rooms and bathrooms and price. I made reservations for two rooms, for two nights. The woman at the front desk was polite and "appeared" extremely helpful, booked our rooms quickly, I asked for a receipt, she said she folded it and put it with the hotel map/info and had us checked in and to our rooms fast. The rooms and bathrooms are very large, immaculate, pristine clean and accommodating in all aspects. The beds and pillows were more than comfortable with fresh linens. Seating and storage is more than enough. The bathroom is large, well lit, plenty of counter space and the walk in shower is huge and easily handicap accessible, for my mother's needs, the only issue I had with the room was the bathroom door is heavy glass and somewhat hard to move and close and the glass is frosted but not enough privacy for me. The issue we did have, which made an already stressful trip, more stressful, was.. we left early in the morning and only returned briefly later in the evening for my son to get something from his room, when he used the card key to unlock the door, it wasn't working, after multiple attempts, he went to the front desk and told them the problem, they said they corrected the issue, not stating what caused it and sent him on his way, issue fixed. When we returned late, with my elderly mother, I wanted to stop at the desk to make sure there were no issues with my room card key, before taking my mom back to the room, I asked the man at the front desk, he checked, said everything was good, then I asked what had happened that caused my son's card key not to work, he said that my son was checked out earlier because his reservation was only made for one night, I said no, I paid two rooms for two nights and in advance, I asked him to reprint my receipt for both rooms, which showed my room was also checked out of earlier and a new reservation was made for both rooms but my room was charged at a higher rate than the previous one I had already paid for, I explained the situation, the man said he couldn't fix the issue himself and would leave a note for the day manager, I stated I was concerned I was being overcharged and also double charged, he was in a hurry and reiterated the day manager would have to fix the issue. I went to my room concerned about the charges, as my bill was almost $800 for two rooms for two nights and inflated, double charges would be outrageous. I then went back down to the front desk after I couldn't sleep, hoping to fully resolve the issue. A new woman was at the front desk, I was hoping she would be helpful, which I was very sadly mistaken, all she did was complain, make excuses, tell me she was bombarded from the start of her shift and couldn't get her work done, ect... I explained that guest issues were part of her job and it is not good customer service to spend all her time complaining to a guest who had a serious billing issue and noted that I was never informed of the issue by any staff and had to figure it out on my own.. she said she was new, hired in Jan, '24 and was not fully trained... 7 months and you are not fully trained to know your job and work responsibilities!? She did nothing to help. When checking out the next morning, the woman at the front desk, addressed me, knew the issue and had it fixed and my billing correct before I even had a chance to explain! She was absolutely fantastic! And eased my stress! I told the manager my experience and suggested he do something special for an exemplary employee who deserved accolades versus the other employees who knew nothing about their job and showed extremely poor customer service. I would have given this hotel 5 Stars if it hadn't been for the three employees that made it a stressful experience because they didn't know their job, didn't care about the customer and showed poor customer service! Hopefully the manager did some retraining.

We always try to choose this hotel because of its quality and price. Our favorite part is breakfast, as it often includes what we like and usually eat at home. But this time, things didn't go so well. The selection was very limited; the omelet from the menu was just a standard omelet with vegetables and cheese, while in other hotels, the chef offers different options every day according to tastes. The staff knows absolutely nothing about what they're serving. When you ask, "What is this?" they look surprised and run to the kitchen to ask. Out of the four dishes presented on the table, isn't it possible to remember what you're serving? The berries were served partially spoiled. The croissants were dry. The kitchen door, which constantly opens and closes, creaks terribly, which is very annoying when you've just woken up and come down for breakfast. This says a lot about how the hotel takes care of its appearance. I wouldn't recommend having breakfast at this hotel and paying $17 for it. **Pros of the hotel:** It's clean, spacious, and smells good. There are water/ice stations on each floor, which is very convenient, so you don't need to buy water bottles. The location is convenient; you can walk to Duke University. There's parking available, but you have to pay for it, and it's limited in size, so if you arrive late in the evening, you might have to park further away in another building across the street, which is not part of the hotel. The front desk staff is friendly. Overall, our experience at this hotel was 50/50. Since breakfast was important to us this time, and we chose it specifically for the delicious breakfast at other hotels in this chain, we were disappointed. Advice to the hotel management: Take a look at how the staff work at the hotels in Charlotte and Orlando. There's a big difference. Otherwise, it's quite good for a one or two-night stay.

I have consistently chosen to stay at this establishment during my business trips to Durham. However, my most recent experience left me deeply dissatisfied. The shower in my room was not properly cleaned, and there was visible mold. Despite repeated requests to the front desk, the issue remained unresolved, prompting me to purchase bleach and Lysol to address the problem myself. Furthermore, the parking situation at the hotel is inadequate and severely limited. Upon reviewing my concerns on the Marriott website, I was disappointed to find that the general manager made no attempt to resolve the matter or offer any form of compensation. An apology, while appreciated, does not fully address the inconvenience and frustration I experienced. As a gesture of goodwill and to rectify the situation, I would expect some form of compensation, such as complimentary parking during my next visit or the allocation of loyalty points. Regrettably, given the circumstances, I am compelled to reconsider my preference for this hotel during future business trips to Durham. Lastly, the walls and ceilings are super thin. If anyone is above you when then walk it sounds like Big Foot. Which left me sleepless for 4 nights. It was really bad.

Nice hotel and pleasant staff. Rooms are basic but perfectly workable. Easy walk to Duke University and close to restaurants. Breakfast buffet is a bit expensive and you need to find the staff to get utensils. We found the taxi they recommended artificially bumped their prices but that's not on the hotel and more of an FYI. Overall good experience and good location.

Super nice hotel, close to Duke Medical Center, very friendly people, nice bar and small plates. Highly recommended. A little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. 5 stars all the way.

Beautiful clean hotel. Aurelia was very courteous and friendly when she kindly brought an extra set of sheets to our room. The room was very clean and modern.
