I went on NEEM's December 2015 agroecology delegation to Cuba and while I enjoyed my first visit to Cuba, there were many problems associated with the tour operator that cast a pall over the entire experience for me. First off, the communications from NEEM that would allow one to properly prepare for the trip were terrible. We never received an itemized list of what was and was not included in the tour charge. Most of the meals were not included. This was extremely problematic because I could not access my bank through an ATM network while in Cuba thereby forced to have to borrow money from a friend to make ends meet while there. There was also a misrepresentation by NEEM of one of the tour's objectives which was to lay the foundation for a formal, ongoing people-to-people exchange between Cuba and an existing fifty year old people-to-people NGO. This was advertised by NEEM on their website and five people came as a result. Once we got there we found that no preparation nor meetings of any kind were arranged for us with any Cuban representatives whatsoever. Last, but not least, we paid for an extra day at the end of the trip in Havana where we were led to believe some program would be arranged for us. Needless to say nothing was arranged.
