Maverick's Smokehouse & Taproom
Phone: (919) 682-8978
While the Bull City has plenty of awesome barbecue joints, Maverick’s is the only smokehouse open after 10 on the weekends. Pulled pork, smoked sausage, brisket, chicken and more are all featured on this expansive menu. Feeling a bit peckish, but not ready to down a whole brisket sandwich? Order a basket of bacon jalapeño fries from the starter menu.

Was hesitant to try based on the many detailed negative reviews. The wings and fries was a hit. After doing much travel and eating at various restaurants I have come to learn each establishment has their own finished product that makes them unique.
I was able to see some of their chopped barbecue and it has a different look and texture than what I'm used to. However, will try on my next visit. -
This is one of the most underrated BBQ joints in town. I've been about 3 or 4 times between dine-in or takeout. Always had good food and good service. Beer prices are better than most spots in town also. Not a bad place at all to stop for dinner and a brew on the way home from work. -
Great bbq! The Memphis rubbed pulled chicken was extremely juice and flavorful. The portions are generous and filling. The Mavs bbq bacon burger was amazing. The bacon was super crispy and the burger was a perfect size. The Mac and cheese has been one of the best I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend a visit to Mavericks smokehouse. You won’t be disappointed. -
Imani took the BEST care of us today !
We got off the train to explore Durham and stumbled upon Maverick’s via sight of the patio and smell of the barbecue.
She immediately greeted us with a smile, grabbed us drinks immediately while we looked at the menu and expertly answered all of our food questions!
My best friend and I got off the train to explore walkable places from the train station and are so glad we found Maverick’s.
We got the Chili Cheese fries which was a brisket chili with a smoky melted cheese.
We also both got a cider and a shot of coconut 1800.
Imani checked in the entire visit and also kept us company, will be back to see her!! -
Great food. Had the Carolina pulled pork and it came with a side and 3 sauces. Tasted great, recommend it!
