This is a wonderful locally owned wine shop. I've only been a handful of times, but every time I've visited I've been thoroughly impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness of the people working there. I know very little about wine and am also pretty cheap, but the staff has always helped me pick interesting and reasonably priced wine. They really know their stuff and are able to provide helpful information in a way I can understand. This place is a real gem in south Durham.

Every business wishes they had service this good. Drew and the rest of his team always greet me when I walk in, let me know they're ready to help if I have questions, and when checking out are warm and friendly. The curated shelves of wine cover all the bases, with excellent options at all price points. This is my go-to place when I need a bottle or two for a nice dinner, to take to a party, or for a gift.

I loved the great selection of wines, and the free wine tasting on Saturday was a nice added bonus. What I found quite blatantly obvious was how poorly my friends and I were treated vs. the other white groups there. It obviously shouldn’t matter how “young” a person looks or if they’re dressed much nicer but we literally got half the amount of tasting per, and when we had finished, I asked if I could try a little more of a particular wine I had enjoyed (which I ended up buying after), the lady literally gave me a hesitant response of, I guess I can give you a little more.... it was so uncomfortable that I honestly prob won’t ever go back to the wine tasting portion if it meant experiencing it this way

This shop is under new ownership, who is by and large absent.

I was shocked by how unwelcoming the new management is.

This is a neighborhood wine shop. My husband really liked chatting with the last owner, who knew a lot about wine. He had not been since the new owner took over. I convinced him to go for a tasting, and I'm so sorry that I dragged him in there on his weekend time.

We were the only people tasting at the bar. Despite this, the managers showed zero interest in us. It was very awkward. They asked no questions, not even how long we'd been going there. Management and senior sales people actively avoided us. No one wanted to talk beyond shelling out basic wine info on what they were trying to sell at the tasting.

When we stepped away from the counter to look around after the tasting, they suddenly gathered with one another behind the counter to talk among themselves, leaving me somewhat confused and left to peruse the shelves alone (we were the only ones there looking at wine too) instead of taking the opportunity to approach us, get to know us, and retain local clients--and maybe entice us to want come in more often.

All 4 seats were empty at the counter around them. It was a weekend night. Had I felt more welcome, we might have bought a nice bottle of wine and sat down to talk. Instead we left. My husband just shrugged (he likes Wine Authorities anyhow) but I actually felt somewhat shocked.

It's hard to believe they're trying to run a hospitality business. That experience was anything but fun. It was stressful and a disappointing waste of time.

If they want to justify the higher prices over other stores, or encourage people to drink on premises, they need much better management. Preferably people who like people.

We had every intention of supporting this local business, but won't be returning anytime soon.
