HopeBoykinDance: Troubled No More

Two years after a sold-out performance, Durham native and former Alvin Ailey dancer Hope Boykin returns to Duke Arts with a trio of acclaimed American dance companies: Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and her eponymous company HopeBoykinDance. This dynamic repertory evening will feature short works by each company before culminating in the premiere of Troubled No More, a new dance work by Boykin celebrating the music and legacy of gospel legend Pastor Shirley Caesar.

Raised in Durham, Boykin grew up listening to Caesar’s powerful voice, absorbing its rhythms and spirit from an early age. As director and choreographer, she channels that lifelong influence into this vibrant new work created for Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and HopeBoykinDance.

Bringing three companies together on one stage, Troubled No More is a joyful tribute to Caesar’s enduring musical legacy and to the power of gospel music.
