In this class, young creative dancers learn about improvising and choreographing dances. Each style of dance requires practicing many of the same building blocks, such as balance, coordination, strength, rhythm, and some common steps. Dancers will play with movement and dance concepts as well as how to plan or arrange their movements. Improvisation is in part where we learn technical principals in a playful manner, and also where we get to express ourselves as individuals and in collaboration with one another. The students’ creations can be just simple and fun, or they can experiment by rewinding, varying speed, or dancing on different levels. Participants will be encouraged to work individually and collaboratively to explore spatial awareness, create shapes and gestures, and learn about weight, balance, and support.
