Durham Public Schools is planning to create a middle school on the campus of N.C. Central University for 300 students from some of the school district’s academically struggling elementary schools. The school will be named Eagle Academy and hopes to enroll 300 students with 100 students each in grades 6-8. The Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.)-themed school will be located in NCCU’s Lee Biology Building next to DPS’ J.D. Clement Early College High School. Students will come primarily from Y.E. Smith and Eastway elementary schools, but Eagle Academy will also draw from Fayetteville and Burton elementary schools as well as a few others.
