WUNC Spotlight: Drawing your community- Storytelling & Zine Making with Eli Chen
What do illustrated journalism, community stories, and a good craft night have in common?
Join WUNC News for their upcoming spotlight Drawing your Community with Eli Chen, a creative night of storytelling, conversation, and hands-on crafting. Part journalist talk, part community hangout and part zine-making workshop, this WUNC Spotlight invites you to explore how stories can take shape far beyond the page.
WUNC News digital storyteller and illustrator Eli Chen will share some of their favorite projects, from illustrated reporting and social media storytelling to community-centered zines. Participants will take a behind the scenes look at how journalism and art come together to tell stories in new ways.
Then it’s your turn! Using simple folding techniques and a single sheet of paper, you’ll create your own mini zine inspired by your experiences. Don’t worry, they’ll have prompts! Along the way, you’ll have the chance to ask questions, share ideas, and connect with fellow makers in a relaxed, craft-night atmosphere.
Whether you’re an artist, a journalist, a longtime zine enthusiast or someone who just likes making cool things with your community, this evening is for you. No artistic experience is required and all materials will be provided.
Hang out, get inspired, and leave with a tiny publication…and maybe a few new connections.
This event is part of WUNC’s 50th anniversary celebration, featuring 50 events across North Carolina that bring people together through community, conversation, and storytelling.
