Lip Critic at The Pinhook
*Theft World* is an album about stealing—both literal and psychological. After having his identity and finances stolen on tour, the narrator discovered the scammer had also purchased the band’s music on Bandcamp, making the violation feel intensely personal. Days later, at a show in Boston, he met the thief: a young fan convinced the band’s songs contained hidden codes and clues meant specifically for him. The band recorded hours of the fan explaining his bizarre mythology of “The ATM Man,” “The Junk Space,” and other imagined narratives. Back home, those recordings eclipsed the album they had been making. Inspired by the fan’s delusional interpretation, they scrapped their original material and built *Theft World* entirely around his fractured vision.
