TIMES FOUR / David Gordon: 1975/2025 is a collaboration between artists past and present, as seminal choreographer David Gordon’s little-seen duet with his life/art partner Valda Setterfield. Times Four (1975) is re-conceived by Wally Cardona and performed alongside Molly Lieber. The year before he died, Gordon spoke with Cardona about doing Times Four, last performed in the 70’s. Though it never came to fruition before Gordon’s death in 2022, two years after he died, Cardona began the process of realizing the work. The only existing resources included a grainy video of some phrases being taught in rehearsal, a few still photos, and Setterfield’s handwritten notes. Much of the material had no record at all. Preserving and building on these fragments, Cardona moves from the question of “what would THEY do then” to “what would WE do now” and, together with Lieber, imagines Times Four into the future.
