ADF Presents: Paul Taylor Dance Company w/ Post Performance Discussion

ADF Co-commissioned World Premiere

Program: Clair de Lune by Jody Sperling, New work by Pam Tanowitz, …Byzantium by Paul Taylor, Under the Rhythm by Robert Battle

Running time: 95 minutes, includes two intermissions

Tickets are purchased through Duke University’s Box Office.

This program includes four works by four choreographers. Clair de Lune by Jody Sperling is an homage to Loïe Fuller and mines her synaesthetic concept of color harmony in which multi-hued lights are composed like musical notes into luminous melodies and chords. Inspired by a poem and dedicated to his mother, Under the Rhythm by Robert Battle, the company’s newly named and second Resident Choreographer, is set to a jazzy, energetic score featuring Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Wycliffe Gordon. …Byzantium (1984) by Paul Taylor is a dark, symbolic modern dance work that explores themes of religious tyranny, power, and human convolution, inspired by Taylor’s personal vision of the Byzantine era as a mix of intrigue and ceremony. ADF alum and acclaimed choreographer Pam Tanowitz will create a new work for the company.
