I stopped in (1st time) for birthday cupcakes. My toddler picked a cookie that he loved and couldn't finish because it is was so big. I picked up 4 cupcakes each a different flavor. I even found a gluten free cupcake

This is the coolest place. It has huge windows and a great atmosphere during the week, with students studying. On weekends it's too crowded which makes it too noisy inside. You can sit outside though on the cute patio. The food is really good. I love their chocolate chip scones, and also their salmon salad. After, you can walk around the Duke East Campus and check out the architecture.

This is what I wanted coming to Durham / Chapel Hill area for memorial day weekend, I wanted a nice breakfast spot for me and my wife (brunch crew for life) not only is this a truly cute place, but it's very prompt at getting food and drinks out. When you consider all the plates they have spinning in the air at once from there, cakes, and pastries, to there full lunch service, and the plethora of really good coffee options I'm blown away. Thanks guys for exceeding expectations!

The cakes are always great and the presentation is always good. I just wish there was a little more variety with the different flavors. The staple chocolate, strawberry and butter creams are always good, but a little expansion into some riskier cakes could always be good. Other than that...definitely a great place to get some sweets if just stopping by or planning a party.

This is probably the best breakfast spot I've ever been to! Great theme and decor both inside and out. Staff were also super friendly and nice. The coffee drinks we got were great and the food was outstanding!!! I think it was worth the price. Any time we visit Durham, we'll be sure to come back.

The aesthetic of the place is really neat. Definitely has that hipster/open vibe. When you order to eat there it's a bit confusing to understand what to do. Wasn't sure if my tea would come with my food or if I had to wait at the counter for it. The food itself was okay but nothing to make me come back. Maybe it was my personal selection but I'm not 100% sure. Overall the chai I got was good, but nothing that would make me come back for more.

I cannot say enough good things about Mad Hatter! By far one of my favorite places to stop in Durham. The atmosphere and the food are excellent. We have tried a variety of items on the menu, as well as from the bakery, and everything has been exceptionally good. The coffee smoothies are amazing, too! It has become our favorite ritual to walk Duke campus then get breakfast at the Mad Hatter!

Liked this place for its environment. Plenty of nature light for anytime of the day. Power outlet is basically everywhere. Would give it 4 stars. However, quality has gone down for the recent month, had a latte tastes basically like milk and today got another latte that looks like this.

This coffee shop is one of my favorite local places to go to! They have the BEST baked goods, coffee, and food. They give huge portions and everything is always delicious!

This was a great spot for my first college interview! It wasn't to loud and there was plenty of space available. So, no one felt cramped. Electric outlets are also available if you want to work from your laptop. They had a great London fog and a fabulous dinner menu. I had the tomato and mozzarella grilled sandwich and it was to die for!

After getting takeout at the Vine Asian and Thai restaurant I took the short walk over to the Mad Hatter’s to get some bakery items. I chose the chocolate croissant. I took a menu also after asking if it was OK to do so, because I saw some very interesting lunch choices. And I thought maybe I could return here someday with my wife. However the chocolate croissant was 90% bread and like 5% chocolate. I always thought: if you’re going to treat yourself - don’t be a little bad be very bad! I may return here with my wife to try the lunch, especially since they have an outdoor area and we can bring the dog.

The chocolate peanut butter cake was beautiful AND delicious. Will plan on getting many more birthday cakes here! Definitely one of my favorite spots in Durham. Highly recommend.

My fiancé came up with the design and my sister in law coordinated getting it made because it was a surprise for my graduation. But she called around a bunch of places and nobody would even attempt it (not sure why), but my SIL said that the woman she spoke with at mad hatters was hesitant about trying it as well but said that she would do her best and was really nice. And she nailed it. It was the best cake I’ve ever gotten. Seriously. The design was hilarious and really well done by whomever decorated it. And the inside had a delicious strawberry filling with actual strawberries (not just a jelly). I’m not even usually crazy about the taste of icing, but that was really good too. So thank you, Mad Hatters for working with my family to give me the best cake ever.
