I stopped in (1st time) for birthday cupcakes. My toddler picked a cookie that he loved and couldn't finish because it is was so big. I picked up 4 cupcakes each a different flavor. I even found a gluten free cupcake

This is the coolest place. It has huge windows and a great atmosphere during the week, with students studying. On weekends it's too crowded which makes it too noisy inside. You can sit outside though on the cute patio. The food is really good. I love their chocolate chip scones, and also their salmon salad. After, you can walk around the Duke East Campus and check out the architecture.

This is what I wanted coming to Durham / Chapel Hill area for memorial day weekend, I wanted a nice breakfast spot for me and my wife (brunch crew for life) not only is this a truly cute place, but it's very prompt at getting food and drinks out. When you consider all the plates they have spinning in the air at once from there, cakes, and pastries, to there full lunch service, and the plethora of really good coffee options I'm blown away. Thanks guys for exceeding expectations!

The cakes are always great and the presentation is always good. I just wish there was a little more variety with the different flavors. The staple chocolate, strawberry and butter creams are always good, but a little expansion into some riskier cakes could always be good. Other than that...definitely a great place to get some sweets if just stopping by or planning a party.

This is probably the best breakfast spot I've ever been to! Great theme and decor both inside and out. Staff were also super friendly and nice. The coffee drinks we got were great and the food was outstanding!!! I think it was worth the price. Any time we visit Durham, we'll be sure to come back.

The aesthetic of the place is really neat. Definitely has that hipster/open vibe. When you order to eat there it's a bit confusing to understand what to do. Wasn't sure if my tea would come with my food or if I had to wait at the counter for it. The food itself was okay but nothing to make me come back. Maybe it was my personal selection but I'm not 100% sure. Overall the chai I got was good, but nothing that would make me come back for more.

I cannot say enough good things about Mad Hatter! By far one of my favorite places to stop in Durham. The atmosphere and the food are excellent. We have tried a variety of items on the menu, as well as from the bakery, and everything has been exceptionally good. The coffee smoothies are amazing, too! It has become our favorite ritual to walk Duke campus then get breakfast at the Mad Hatter!

Liked this place for its environment. Plenty of nature light for anytime of the day. Power outlet is basically everywhere. Would give it 4 stars. However, quality has gone down for the recent month, had a latte tastes basically like milk and today got another latte that looks like this.

This coffee shop is one of my favorite local places to go to! They have the BEST baked goods, coffee, and food. They give huge portions and everything is always delicious!

This was a great spot for my first college interview! It wasn't to loud and there was plenty of space available. So, no one felt cramped. Electric outlets are also available if you want to work from your laptop. They had a great London fog and a fabulous dinner menu. I had the tomato and mozzarella grilled sandwich and it was to die for!

After getting takeout at the Vine Asian and Thai restaurant I took the short walk over to the Mad Hatter’s to get some bakery items. I chose the chocolate croissant. I took a menu also after asking if it was OK to do so, because I saw some very interesting lunch choices. And I thought maybe I could return here someday with my wife. However the chocolate croissant was 90% bread and like 5% chocolate. I always thought: if you’re going to treat yourself - don’t be a little bad be very bad! I may return here with my wife to try the lunch, especially since they have an outdoor area and we can bring the dog.

My fiancé came up with the design and my sister in law coordinated getting it made because it was a surprise for my graduation. But she called around a bunch of places and nobody would even attempt it (not sure why), but my SIL said that the woman she spoke with at mad hatters was hesitant about trying it as well but said that she would do her best and was really nice. And she nailed it. It was the best cake I’ve ever gotten. Seriously. The design was hilarious and really well done by whomever decorated it. And the inside had a delicious strawberry filling with actual strawberries (not just a jelly). I’m not even usually crazy about the taste of icing, but that was really good too. So thank you, Mad Hatters for working with my family to give me the best cake ever.

We got food catered from Mad Hatter for a coworker's farewell party. The sandwich was AMAZING and the fruit salad was very fresh. However the quantity it was definitely not enough food for 15 people and not worth $150 (according to the shop, the large platter we ordered would contain 16 hot pieces, but each "piece" was only HALF a sandwich, so basically we were paying $10 for each half). The good thing was that they were willing to send us a Caesar salad after we called. However based on this experience we'd probably not order from Mad Hatter again.

Mad Hatter has fantastic food and service.. what made the experience truly wonderful was that they went out of their way to fix a small issue with our order. Had a great experience.. can’t wait to order again!!

I love the Fried Goat Cheese Salad! I noticed that you made the goat cheese croquettes less than half the size the normally are. I think your loyal customers will pay an increased amount to enjoy the effect of the croquettes. The current size in no way reflects the title, especially since you only get three.

Very friendly staff! Delicious brownies and cookies, and the cappuccino I ordered was awesome! They have options for everyone, and the outdoor sitting section is very nice. Definitely coming back here next time I am in town.

I had ordered a cake for my husband's birthday online and the email said to check back within 48 hours if we hadn't received a call. When I called they didn't have my order but she was very nice and we just finished the order through the phone. To pick it up we went and had breakfast at mad hatter Cafe. The staff was super friendly, played with our little one, came to check if everything was alright and was overall attentive and polite. We will definitely be back 😊

That day decided to go somewhere new in Durham for brunch. Best decision ever! The food was great and the service was excellent. If I don't go back for anything else but for the lattes it will be a win-win.

Cute little bake- and coffee shop. When I was at Duke I used to go to Mad Hatter all the time to sip on a latte and work on my laptop. The ambiance here is great. The food in good too, especially the huevos rancheros. The pastries are always delicious as well. It's usually pretty busy but is definitely worth dealing with the crowd.

Wonderful experience. The website for this business has an option for wedding cake tasting. With the Pandemic they do it "to-go." We made contact through that section of the website and were contacted by the owner or manager (maybe she's both). My fiance described an interest in trying their other sweets for our upcoming desert display. Today we showed up early to have breakfast. I got a breakfast burrito and it came out pretty fast. One of the better breakfast burritos I've had. Not a sad alternative to a real burrito but one with a lot of real egg (no powdered scrambled) it was like an omelet in a tortilla with black bean salsa mix, added bacon (two whole slices). Bacon was even crisp and added a nice texture to the whole on sambal. Coffee was also very good, ordered a second earl gray lotte (London Fog) to go too. So when the appointment for cake pickup came they were prompt. The owner/ manager came out when we ordered breakfast and was very kind plus seemed genuinely interested in our engagement and wedding. She came out to give us the to-go wedding cake tasting plus a to-go tasting box of some other sweets. It was all very fresh and tasty. We did a side by side tasting with other to-go cake samples to whittle down which bakery to go with. Mad Hatter was an easy stand out. Actually threw away the other bakery tasting samples part way through and just tasted the rest of the Mad Hatter ones. The tasting samples were also enough for easily eight people to participate in the tasting. They were fully decorated as well unlike the other bakery options. This was just a good experience and I'm very excited to continue through the wedding cake process with Mad Hatter.
