Goosebumps is trading hands in the cafeteria, Fear Street is the book your parents think is “too scary,” and nothing beats rolling into the book fair with a few bucks and big plans.

This October, The Durham Hotel is bringing that feeling back. TGIF at The Durham returns with Fear Street, a costume-party twist on the cult classics that kept you up past bedtime. Expect a dope ’90s playlist, throwback snacks, and fall vibes all night.

Step back into your childhood book fair days this time with a grown-up twist. Letters Bookshop is popping up with eerie, nostalgic reads that will transport you straight back to the ’90s.

Costume Contest

Costumes are heavily encouraged, think Goosebumps or your favorite ’90s throwback fit.

Best Costume Prize: A one-night staycation at The Durham Hotel plus a $100 food & beverage credit.

Book Drive with Book Harvest

Support young readers in our community. Bring a new or gently used children’s book to donate and help put stories into kids’ hands.

What to Donate:

Book Harvest gladly accepts new and gently used children’s books for ages 0–18. They especially love:

Board books & picture books

Spanish and bilingual books

Books that portray all children, honoring diverse backgrounds, languages, abilities, and perspectives

Stories by and about people of color

What Not to Donate:

Books for adults (cookbooks, novels, self-help, etc.)

Religious books for any age

Textbooks, atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries

Activity/workbooks or coloring books

Library discards or classroom teaching materials

Books that are outdated, yellowed, torn, molded, or damaged
