Stagville and the Roots of Durham

Discover the connections between the early history of Durham and one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. This small guided tour will highlight the post-Emancipation history of Stagville. Hear stories of how freed people built up Durham, how the Cameron family's wealth influenced North Carolina, and how sharecropping shaped the lives of African American families at Stagville.

This tour will last approximately 75 minutes, including both walking and driving. Each tour is limited to 12 participants, and is outdoors with masks and social distancing required. All historic buildings have ramps and accessible entrances. Some walking may be on uneven or wet ground.

This tour will take place rain or shine! If the event is canceled due to adverse weather, our staff will contact all participants.
