PLAYlist Concert Series: Rissi Palmer
Grammy nominee Durhamite Rissi Palmer, who describes her musical style as “Southern Soul” has received widespread media attention in national publications including Ebony, Billboard, People, Newsweek, Huffington Post, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal and more. Look for her May tour with Miko Marks and the new PBS American Masters documentary, Rissi Palmer: I'm Still Here. She has performed on the CBS Morning Show, CNN, Oprah & Friends, at the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Grand Ole Opry. Rissi made music history in 2007 with the release of her Top 40 debut single, Country Girl, becoming the first African-American female to chart a country song since 1987. She is now the host of the Apple Music Country show, Color Me Country Radio w/ Rissi Palmer and administers the Color Me Country Artist Grant Fund to provide grants for artists of color pursuing careers in Country and Americana Music.

Each evening starts with DJ Travis Gales spinning his Friday Night Mix live at the park at 6:30 p.m. Then the band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. sharp. All the music is simulcast live through WNCU.
There are restrooms at Durham Central Park and the venue is ADA accessible. Parking is free in the lots caddy-cornered and above the park (entrances are on Foster St. and Morris St).
Local food trucks will be on site, as well as craft beer and other vendors.
There’s lawn seating, so please bring a blanket or lawn chair. Picnics are welcome, but outside alcohol is not allowed. Leashed pets are welcome.
