Periodic Tables - Less Radical

As told by tonight's speaker, Duke radiation oncologist Stacy Wentworth, Less Radical is the story of Dr. Bernie Fisher, the surgeon-scientist who not only revolutionized breast cancer treatment, but also fundamentally changed the way we understand all cancers. At the end of his life, a performative, misguided Congressional hearing destroyed his reputation and haunted him until his death, a breathtaking attack on science that we are seeing repeated today. Dr. Wentworth will describe how for anyone who has had breast cancer, Bernie is a part of their story– and they’re a part of his.

Dr. Stacy Wentworth is an award-winning physician, author, and cancer survivorship expert. She has two decades of experience leading patient centered care teams in diverse settings – from NCI designated comprehensive cancer centers to rural hospitals. Her research has been featured at national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Wentworth is the founder of the Cancer Culture Substack, where she explores how personal beliefs, history, and science influence our experience and attitude toward cancer. She is also the producer of the two-time Webby-nominated podcast, Less Radical, which covers the life of surgeon-scientists, Dr. Bernard Fisher, who revolutionized breast cancer treatment.
