Naturally Wild presents Birding for QTBIPOC

Explore the birds that call Duke Gardens home with Naturally Wild LLC. Join bird guide Deja Perkins to explore how the garden changes from spring to summer and how the feathered residents change from month to month. Participants will learn how to identify various birds, help contribute to the NC Bird Atlas, and learn how to monitor birds in their own neighborhoods using Merlin and eBird. This program is offered every first Saturday from March through June, on March 2, April 6, May 4 and June 1 from 9-11 a.m. Meet at the Gothic Gate entrance.

This program is designed to center queer, trans, Black, Indigenous and people of color (QTBIPOC) audiences, voices and experiences as a way to increase access to birding and outdoor spaces for historically marginalized identities. Registration is prioritized for individuals who identify as queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, or a person of color. All skill levels are welcome. Thirteen sanitized binoculars will be available for use; participants are also welcome to bring their own. This will be a small group program that takes place outdoors and traveling on a combination of paved and unpaved paths with some uneven surfaces and moderate inclines.
