Liberty Arts Annual Iron Pour

In case you’ve never been to an Iron Pour, imagine a gritty ballet of dancers dressed in leathers, boots and helmets. They all have a role. They are all driven by the furnace and the Pour Master who is orchestrating this fiery show where sculptures and scratch blocks are poured. Once poured, the molten iron darkens and hardens into the beautiful tiles and pieces created by you and local artists.

All evening and into the night, 4,000 pounds of molten iron will be poured into molds, in an exciting fiery display creating the iron tiles made by the public and sculptures made by NC artists. Additionally, there will be Liberty Arts artists’ work for sale, Liberty Arts T-shirts, beer glasses and hand-blown glass pumpkins. Enjoy drumming performances from Batalá Durham, Fire Breathers, kid-friendly events, local food trucks and craft beer while watching this very creative and gritty Durham event.

As always, the Iron Pour is a FREE event, but a $5 or more donation is appreciated.

Take part in the action! They are offering workshops to create your own mold which be filled with molten iron at the event. Scratch block workshops are held at the Watts Hill Pavilion (foundry), 501 Foster Street, next to Mount Merrill playground; you can register for a workshop at libertyartsnc.org/classes
