Intermediate Fiction with the Redbud Writing Project
The Redbud Writing Project is the Triangle's only creative writing community organization serving adults. Join in to further your writing practice in this intermediate class.
This class is intended for students who have learned the basics of fiction, either in the Fiction I class or in other creative writing courses. In this course, you’ll do a deep dive into intermediate and advanced craft topics including narrative distance, developing your prose and voice, strengthening your structure by diagramming a story, communicating emotion in your work, and playing with and subverting reader expectations. Most importantly, this course will focus on revision: how you can take your work from a rough draft and transform it into a polished story. Students will be expected to write and submit either 2 short stories, 2 sections from a larger work, or 4 flash pieces for workshop during this course. By the end of the six weeks, each student will have ideally produced a revised and polished story that’s ready for submission to a literary journal.
Please note that this class meets for six sessions, starting Aug. 18. The tuition fee covers all six meetings.
