Hayti and Haiti: Free Soil Havens Walking Tour

Feel the pride of Hayti inspired by Haiti - the world’s first free Black Republic. During a 90-minute walk along Fayetteville St., celebrate Black institutions that once stood as community monuments, move through the collective grief over the destruction caused by Urban Renewal, and see yourselves in the lineage of pioneers re-constructing the self-sufficient, city-within-a-city, mecca of Black entrepreneurship and industry, again! Stops include St. Joseph’s AME Church, The Carolina Times, and more! Listen to stories from the working class to professional women , Hwy 147, and many others. The walk begins and ends at the Hayti Heritage Center.
