Give the Drummer Some
Jazz drummer and educator Thomas Taylor will present the 13th annual ‘Give the Drummer Some’ jazz concert and fundraiser.
This year’s performance will feature guest artist Joe Chambers, celebrated jazz drummer and composer, along with several North Carolina Central University (NCCU) jazz percussion alumni. The evening will celebrate the start of a new academic year and pay tribute to NCCU alumnus Grady Tate, legendary jazz drummer and vocalist.
Chambers is a highly regarded drummer, composer and bandleader known for his versatility and mastery across post-bop jazz styles. A subtle yet powerful presence behind the kit, Chambers is celebrated for his impeccable timing, dynamic control and collaborative spirit. His distinguished career spans decades and includes performances and recordings with jazz legends such as Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter and Charles Mingus. An original member of Max Roach’s percussion ensemble M’Boom, Chambers has also released numerous acclaimed solo albums and continues to shape the genre through his innovative compositions and leadership.
Proceeds will benefit the NCCU Jazz Studies Scholarship Fund.
