Foster St Festival for Arts Entrepreneurship
The Artisan Market at 305, Cecy's Gallery, the Art Market Durham, the Durham Craft Market, and Cricket Forge are hosting an arts festival as part of the Durham 150 Celebration. The event will celebrate 30 years of arts entrepreneurship in the Durham Central Park/Downtown District. Many Durham artists have blossomed from selling art out of the back of their cars in the early days of the Durham Craft Market and the Art Market Durham, to having brick and mortar stores or full time art careers. The festival will honor how Durham's supportive community has been an integral part of each individual's story and has contributed to their success. Activities planned include: a full day of art exhibits including three open air art markets: Durham Craft Market (8 am to 12 noon), Art Market Durham (9 am to 1 pm), and artists from The Artisan Market at 305 in the CCB Plaza (11 am to 3 pm).
Events will also include a scavenger hunt with prizes, a raffle for a commemorative Durham 150 bull statue, a Bulltown Strutters parade, and puppetry by Jeghetto (Tarish and wife Robin Pipkins were also early members of DCM). The markets and galleries will display historical posters describing the rich history of arts entrepreneurship in the District. The day will finish up with an in-depth speaker panel on arts entrepreneurship (4 to 5 pm at Cecy's) and a closing reception beginning after the panel.
